Hi, everyone!
I currently work for the hospital that I have worked at since I became an Registered Nurse 2 years ago. I have my BSN currently working towards my MSN online. I plan on going on to Nurse Practitioner school in the future.
I love my job - every part of it, but I am wanting to experience a new place rather than where I am right now. I am in a smaller town; not too small, but smaller than I'd like. I'm wanting to get as much experience as I can. I have always wanted to live in a different area and there are quite a few job openings in the area I would like to move to. So, here is my question.
I have been at the hospital that I am at now working in critical care and floating to the med/surg floor as needed. I like the med/surg floor immensely better as it is faster paced. The area I want to move to is about 3 hours away so I would have to leave the hospital that I am currently at; I will be giving my two weeks notice before I do so as I want to be in good standing. I don't plan on moving for another year because I want to have at least 3 years under my belt at my current location before leaving. Would it be crazy to go ahead and apply for a position at the other hospital and put my start date as next year? Or, would they think I was crazy? I am one of those people who likes everything laid out in front of them. I'm very organized and would really love this opportunity. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all!

I don't think it would be crazy. Mention your circumstances in your cover letter. Most places will keep your application on file for a year if they think there is some chance of hiring the applicant.
