Hi guys, I have a question about rehiring. I was a new nurse three years ago and worked at a regional centre icu. I was very fresh and struggled through orientation. The manager and I met several times throughout and I am sure they had a paper trail against my performance from my preceptor. Eventually my old unit at another hospital offered me a full time job and I resigned from the icu job 6 months after I started. At our final meeting, my manager told me I needed more time and she said I can always reapply to work here once i gain more experiences. I stayed on my old unit for three years after now I'm looking for another job to build my skills set
i now applied for a part time job at the regional hospital (different unit and speciality). The manager emailed me back right away saying she will offer me an interview as my skills set met the job description perfectly. Now I'm not sure what my actual rehire status with HR is since that manager of the unit got fired several months after I left(heard it was related to unit culture). I tried contacting HR but they said they can't disclose that info. My final letter from the manager stated that they had extended my orientation but unfortarely it wasn't the right fit. Anyone had similiar experiences?

If the manager invited you to reapply then they felt you were moving along and had potential. You are fine.

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but when I resigned my first nursing position as a new grad, I signed paperwork with my NM that clearly stated that I was eligible for rehire at the large teaching hospital.
Do you have a copy of your separation paperwork? That would answer your question. You should have signed separation paperwork.
So call HR and ask them your re-hirability status.

HR screens all application's prior to forwarding them to the unit managers. If you were not for rehire you would never have been offered an interview. Good luck at your interview.

You left your original job under agreeable circumstances, have worked successfully at a second employer for 3 years, gaining substantial skills and experience to the approval of the nurse manager who is now hiring to fill a vacancy. She offered you an interview.
While it is understandable for you to be nervous about applying and interviewing for a position with your former employer, much has changed since you left 3 years ago. The manager has already reassured you that you are being considered favorably.
Please set your insecurities aside, and move forward, not back. STOP questioning people, checking your eligibility status, or asking human resources for advice. In all honesty, if I were the nurse manager or human resources representative responsible for your application, I would question repeated contact from an apparently qualified candidate seeking reassurance. It would make me wonder if there is some skeleton in your closet that I should be trying to unearth.
