Hi all! As far as I can tell, there is not yet a thread for the 2016 application cycle (for--fingers crossed--Fall 2017 entry). So, I wanted to start one! I have a bachelor's degree in sociology and French, but in the past year or so (I will spare you the myriad details), discovered my calling as a midwife (I can't even express how accurate the word "calling" is with regard to this profession). I'm applying to six programs (Seattle U, OHSU, UCSF, Yale, Columbia, Vanderbilt), and possibly two more (Emory and Case Western). I am more excited than I think I have been about anything, ever, but am also insanely nervous about the application process and potential acceptances/denials. I have so much emotional energy invested in birth work and midwifery, and literally can't ever imagine entering any other field!
Hopefully this thread will be helpful down the road to other hopeful CNM's! Good luck to everyone!
Hey fellow future midwives. I got my interview offer from Vandy today and UPenn a couple of weeks ago. I've been admitted to the CNM/FNP program at Emory and I'm waiting to hear from Yale. Also considering apply to OHSU because I live in the PNW. I can post my stats if you want. Anyone else apply for OHSU?
Would love for you to post your stats!
I'm so behind, y'all. I have my Emory and SU applications in and trying to get Vanderbilt done by this weekend but I'm taking my finals right now and it's been craaaazy between school and work! Hardly time to sit and write a bunch of personal statements. AYEE!
I hope everyone gets into their dream programs. I'm thinkin' of all my future midwives all the time and sending lots of love y'alls way! XX
You have a ton on your plate!! Remember, there is ALWAYS next year if things don't pan out this year--in the grand scheme of your life, one year will make very little difference :) Plus, you'll be SO prepared for all the apps, and the programs will know you already indicated interest the previous year. Wishing you such good luck. And you got your SU app in on time, so that's encouraging!
Oh, and to starbucksandpink, I am planning on applying to OHSU! It's bizarre to me that their app is due so late when the program starts in May, but I'm sure there's a reason behind that...
itsacalling521, I did find it odd that their app is so late. I decided not to apply to SU because I wasn't too sold by the DNP portion and I wanted a combined FNP-CNM program ideally. As far as stats go I scored in the 90% in all sections of the GRE except math which was 40% (lol whoops). GPA was undergrad 3.5 and I did all prereqs during undergrad. As far as non school stuff I've worked as a doula and I've done a lot maternal health research as an undergrad. I'm beyond excited to be a midwife, it really is a calling.
Hey all! Just finished my interview. Overall, I think it went excellently.
One new piece of information, maybe specifically for CNM applicants: he told me that they were expecting letters to go out late Feb/early March. This kind of surprised me, as it's gone out earlier in past years, even though they had a later deadline than we did this year. But I guess that's the newest update for anyone waiting... we've got a long way to go! Yikes!
Hey y'all!
Late in the game but I just got my interview offer from Vanderbilt as well.
I think they must still have a wider applicant pool than 20 for that reason. They had to open up a new day for interviews since the slots filled so quickly.
Just wondering how everyone's doing- how are y'all interviews going- what questions are they asking- how are you holding up- etc!
I hope everyone's doing well and getting excited and so ready to take on women's health issues- especially with this upcoming administration that seeks do deny us!
XO

Hi all! A few updates--got waitlisted at Emory, which I'm alright with since all they looked at were transcripts and resumes (which seems pretty impersonal to me, but undoubtedly makes the process easier for them). I got an email from Vanderbilt about a phone interview, which leaves me cautiously optimistic, though I know that an interview is, by no means, any kind of guarantee of acceptance. There were about 20 interview slots to choose from, so maybe they're narrowed it down to those 20 or so applicants...I don't know! I did talk to a friend who got into the FNP program at Vandy last year, and says they didn't do interviews for that specialty. Aaaaanyway, hopefully we will all start hearing positive news from schools in the next few weeks/months! This is without a doubt a ridiculously nerve wracking process. Can't wait until it's over!
