Idk but the nursing sector looks very very very bleak...I currently do home health b/c i cannot score a job anywhere else but in home care or LTC...I have applied to over 150 positions and NO ONE...I mean NO ONE calls back...its horrible here in new york....and to add insult to injury you type on indeed.com "registered nurse" and there are TONS of positions available...however they want exp...but then i turn around and hear that some new grad out there was offered a position in a hospital and it truly makes me believe that at this point there is NO way you can get hired unless you know someone in a hospital...I thought that being accepted into a RN-BSN program will increase my chances to the "magnet hospitals"..boy was i wrong....not only that but employers are even "low Balling" nurses with pay b.c they know how desperate nurses are nowadays unfortunately...Im seriously considering another career path...sorry allnurses fam...but i had to vent...feeling truly hopeless at this point...all i can do is just continue to apply on those 1 hour long applications to get automated rejections back...ive tried calling nurse managers, recruiters and it seems as though they all say the same blanket statement....it horrible...:igtsyt:

Have you tried something other than hospitals or LTC? Try clinics, urgent care centers, community health centers, MD offices, school health. Think outside the box. You can take a walk in your own community and find a clinic, MD office.

Also, MAKE SURE YOUR RESUME IS IMPECCABLE. Spelling errors, grammatical errors, LONG resumes are thrown out - it shows lack of attention to details. Have relevant information readily available. Even though you might not have any nursing experience you might have alot of customer service experience, which is relevant. Have you volunteered anywhere that is relevant? This all looks very good. Are you bilingual? Make sure that is at the forefront.

Include a cover letter, that is always a plus. Make sure you sell yourself in the best light. It all starts with your resume. Good luck!

You say you are working in home health. There are people who can not even get a job in home health or LTC, so really you are ahead of the game. At least you are working in nursing.

yea i know collie...lol...i do count my blessings for sure...i just wanted to rant!...LOL...but its scary how bad it is out there...i hope it gets better...:redpinkhe

Ive worked in LTC and Rehabs as an LPN...if i dont get into a hospital at least by the end of the year those would be my last options...trying to SAVE those :lol2:

I can sympathize with this too. Though I haven't been searching as long as you I've only had one interview for a position since graduation and unfortunately it was too far away to really be feasible. NY nursing work seems to be hard to find.

I feel for you. I graduated last December. After graduation I decided to take a lil breather while all my classmates prepared for their NCLEX. By February, almost everyone had passed the NCLEX exam. It was only then when I decided to start studying. In the mean time, I started hearing horror stores from my classmates. They told me how hard it is to find a job. All the hospitals they went and applied for were asking for experience. I was like, how the heck can they expect us to have experience when they arent giving us any job? Anyway, by April, I took my NCLEX and passed it. I then strated looking for a job. And then I realized how true it is. Two months after and countless resumes handed out, still no job. Finally, I swallowed my pride and asked my wife for help. Shes an RN for years now and have established a netowork. Two weeks after she handed out my resumes to her friends, I got a call from a Nursing Home. I worked for a few days but decided that I prefer a hospital job. Two weeks after I quitted that job, i got a call from a hospital. I started this week in a med surg floor. I tried calling up my classmates. Apparently, out of 35 of us in class, only 3 of us were lucky enough to haf landed a job. Its really really sad. One of my classmate phrased it correctly. She said "Its no longer what your degree is or your experience is. It appears that today, its who you know that will land u a job". Its reallly really sad. I really hope that things get better soon.

kukula you're quite right about it being who you know. I've finally landed an interview in the hospital I want to work at by networking with a couple friends who know some of the hiring managers. Hoping it goes well and telling every other new RN in NY to keep trying.

:)

I had this same issue in NYC as well. I graduated last August and I attempted for five months to find a job in the city or even remotely nearby with 100+ applications I never got a call back. Eventually, I decided I'd just remain in my own state and got a job offer within the month. I'm still hoping to move to the city but does anyone have any idea how much experience is enough to reattempt the move?

I'm already a charge nurse at a teaching hopsital/level-1 trauma center if that helps to sell me at all.
