Hey everyone! I figure I could consult with all the experts and scholars on the forum. I am doing my application for Johns Hopkins and i am so stuck on these essay questions. I understand core values and critical thinking but im having trouble relating it to something specific in my career. Maybe i just want it to be right so bad that i am blocking all obvious ideas?? Not sure. Here are the questions. Any input would help tremendously.
1. Diversity is one of the core values of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. Members of the School of Nursing community agree to "embrace our differences in experience, culture and other aspects as a way to enhance all our activities"1. One of the values in professional nursing practice is the "respect for the inherent worth, dignity, and human rights of all individuals"2. Your patients may not share the same ethnicity, culture or set of values as you. Please describe a scenario that challenged your core values and explain how you responded.
2. Throughout the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing literature, you will see "Leaders for Nursing's Future". Critical thinking skills are an essential aspect of leadership in nursing. Give an example of a challenge in which you utilized critical thinking skills to resolve the issue. Please be specific.

Did you ever get anybody to help you with your nursing essay questions? I am also applying to Johns Hopkins nursing program and I am in the same predicament. Please let me know if you got into the nursing program and how your experience was. I would love any tips you may have. Thanks a lot!

Those sound exactly like my essay questions to my University in Colorado!
For the first one, I put down how actually working in a jail made me change my opinion of inmates.
And for the second I put down how I came upon an accident and how I started to prioritize and evaluate the situation. Every minute something else was thrown in and how I dealt with it.
I stressed over those darn questions (we had three). All of the answers had to fit onto one page! Good luck Giggles999. I can't help you out any more than that or if that was even what they are looking for - I won't find out until March if I was accepted - ugh!!
oh my gosh! Thank you sooo much Sand Dollar! The second essay about the car accident really helped! I thought of a lot of emergency situations that I've dealt with in the past and Im going to elaborate on one of those. This really helped! Thanks so much for taking the time to write back and share your knowledge. This application process is so stressful and its so competitive to get in now a days. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get in! Lets keep in touch.
Take care!
Hi Giggles,
I'm glad I could help. I stressed over those questions for weeks! I think I wrote well enough, I am still worried. I have a good GPA but they said they have declined students with good GPAs but poor essays and accepted lower GPAs for those with good essays! Ugh, its so darn stressful. Let me know how it goes for you, when do you find out?
Be sure to look around this site, there are great chats about everything in school and out. I save them up like ones on study tips, good shoes to wear, all of that. I am hanging out in the pre-nursing student section (pre-reqs) for now, but there are great topics everywhere.
Good luck!!!
