I didn't think it was too hard, I did all my nursing pre-req's at a CC and have been in healthcare for over 15 yrs. I was in the 1st cohort and it was a little disorganized at 1st, I think they've gotten most of the bugs out though. The instuctors they have come from a wide range of backgrounds and really try to help all the students succeed. I just recently finished Excelsior college's LPN-RN program and it helped to start it right after I got done w/ Apollo while everything was fresh in my mind.
No you can't use federal financial aid for excelsior. I took out a private student loan to cover the costs of the program including travel expenses to New York for my CPNE this past August. For clinicals at Apollo the 1st semester of nursing 9 of us went to a LTC for 16 weeks-it was a little crowded. The 2nd semester we had 4 weeks a piece in peds, ob/gyn, psych, & community health. The last 16 weeks I was in LTC again for my preceptorship but it was me and another student only. I got to do a lot of things on my own like working with wound vacs, PICC lines, and placing f/c's. Apollo's classes are 2 days a week and clinicals 2 days a week w/ 1 day off so it's not a lot of class time. Good luck to you.
