AP lecture struggle

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm still plugging away. For a recap:

I'm a first generation college student, 32, mom, divorced, have a hobby farm with my partner...any how. I'm a year in and was loving life, making A's, deans list, scholarships, truly dedicated and so proud to be beating the odds. Then I took AP lab and lecture ... My lab is great, my professor is awesome. My lecture/physiology professor though...

He cane recommended by a friend. His quizzes were all online, group project is just a few points less than a test, easy points. Left out the rambling, tangent like style. I find out too far in that he's changed everything between my semester and the last. No quizzes online, no group project, no study guides for exams. Just vague suggestions. I also test at our disability department versus the class. It takes him more than 2 weeks to get my quiz and test scores. Meaning I take the next test or quiz without knowing my previous grade. One time he picked up 2 tests at the same time he was so late :(

Im struggling. I asked Monday, the last day to drop if I should, stressing that I'm devastated by a B but can live with it (hopefully) he convinced me to stay, swearing I could get a B but I had an 80.5 before today's horrible test :( No study guide of course, he gave us vague suggestions on what we might should look at...last night...

Anyway. The wind is out of my sails. I'm concerned about my chances now :( I have no bio or Chem experience and struggle greatly with physiology. What are your suggestions? I record his classes and review them with my partner (she's a veterinarian) and rewrite them but it's still not clicking. I try reading my book prior to class, watching khan videos etc Have some of you struggled with physiology but still excel in nursing?

I don't know if my comment will help, but I just want you to know I am struggling with this so much right now.

I'm in AP 1 right now as well. For our nursing program, it's on points. C is passing and eligible, but 0 points. B gives you 250, and an A gives you 500. Naturally you want all As.

Right now, I am dangling on the C/D line.

I do great in my lab class (for the most part, aside from the Chemistry), but lecture is killing me.

I rewrite all my notes (combination of Powerpoints and my class notes). I make flashcards. I watch YouTube videos. I talk to myself outloud.

Hopefully, someone who is already in a nursing program can answer your questions.

But for now, I'm in the same boat as you. I do look forward to hearing how it ends up for you! We can struggle together. :(

A&P is obviously your foundation for the nursing program and without fully comprehending it, it will be incredibly difficult to do well if you haven't laid the proper foundation. I suggest meeting with tutors at your school to help you figure out what works best for you during your study time. In A&P 1 I learned that I needed to take my notes, go home and rewrite/type my notes in a format that I could understand. I have stuck with that same routine and have Aced both sections of A&P. Find what works best for you in studying the material because you absolutely have to understand, comprehend and recall to do well in Nursing.
