I am considering a job with UM. Has anyone worked here before? Do you like it? Parking seems like such a pain. Any tips?

Hi there, I work at U of M. I really like it for the most part, the benefits are pretty decent (especially retirement...it's practically unheard of) but the hourly wage is just average compared to the other hospitals in the area. And yeah, parking is a horrible (especially for day shift), but just a way of life. It's something you just have to get used to. I work straight night shifts so it's a much more tolerable though. I don't know what exactly you want to know about the health system, but you can PM me and I would be more than happy to answer any questions you have. Go Blue! :)

+1 to everything that Sarah said. Me personally, I don't think that parking is such a pain, but I've lived in and around Ann Arbor for nearly all my life so I've grown very accustomed to it. The two cheapest levels of parking available to staff are Orange and Yellow. Orange allows you to park semi-close and catch a commuter bus that runs every 10 mins or so. Yellow is only a few bucks more a month (if you elect for payroll deduction) and if you get an AVI pass ($20 deposit, refundable when you return it) you can park at the hospital on nights and weekends, which is great assuming you work those shifts.
I'm also available by PM if you have any questions.
