Anyone work in Tulsa, Oklahoma?

:) Would love to hear from other nurses that work in Tulsa, Oklahoma ......where do you work and how long hve you been there and what is your pay like??? You can probably guess where I work at by my user name! Look forward to reading your responses! :)

Yep your user name tells it all. I don't work there, I'm just up the road near Utica Square. I'm a new grad, new RN since Jan 14, 2004. I make the going wage around here for new grads, $16.03/hr. I work on a cardiac step-down/ neurosurg step-down floor. I have another month of orientation and then I join my assigned team. We are changing our mode of nursing to team nursing from the 1950's. Lots of questions and lots of dessention among the ranks so transition is slow but will happen. Our floor will be divided into pods of 10 patients each. Each pod will have 2 nurses with at least one RN and an aide per shift and one RN that is responsible for 24 hour care whether there or not. The key to making this work is communication, respect, and trust. Contrary to what people think, no one practices under your license. If competent to practice, then held responsible. The RN is still held accountable for patient outcomes. I think it is a great idea but to work, it will require everyone's cooperation and a good attitude. No more allocation of duties; it will be delegation based on scope of practice and competence.

Hee hee, your name says it all. My mom worked there for many years on 5West.

I'll be starting school in spring '05, I currently work as a doula at the one just down the street from wishingmary, the one to the north. I really would love to work in OB there (as you might guess from my name :)) The new women's center is an awesome place. It's set up very nicely. I just hope the money comes in for school! :)

I also work down the street on 21st and Utica. I work in the ER. I've been there for 5 years. My salary has varied over the years. Like to know how long you've been a nurse and what area you work in?

i worked in pediatrics. i have been there a long time (>10 years). have you worked anywhere but er?

Specializes in Critical Care, ED.

Do you like it here? I mean, we have many great hospitals to choose from. Many cities can't say that. Have you lived in Tulsa all of your life?

I thought that Specialtly Hospital was down at 81st and Lewis in with the cancer treatment center. I'm just curious...

We had a hospital there until 2002. Now we have two facilities, one at TRMC and one at Kaiser Rehab on the HMC campus. I am kinda sick of Tulsa though. Would like to move to a big city with tons of hospitals.:)
