My hospital is in the process of building our computer charting system, and the program that we're gonna go live with is the Clinical Care Station from McKesson. Is there anyone in this forum who has built a system with this program from McKesson or at least has some experience in using McKesson?

What are the pros and cons of Mckesson?

What can you say about this system?

I'm just curious because my core team started this week with classes from the McKesson folks on how to use the system, and it seems okay, but I wanna know from other nurses and other folks who are here about your opinion on anything about McKesson's computer charting system.

Looking forward to your responses :):jester:

We use McKesson now for our CCS and Accu-Dose. As with any system there are pros and cons.

Pros:

The menus are able to be highly customized

Everything can be point and click (saving LOTS of time)

Cons:

Getting a report of what you have charted is not as reader-friendly as I would like

I have used other systems out there and each has things that I would like to change about it.

One of my dreams is to make a charting, medication, and order entry system that is so instinctive for the nurses on the floor that they wonder what they ever did before it. :lol2:

what were some of the ways that the hospital taught teh staff the use of McKesson? right now, my hospital is in the process of building our forms and at the same time, we are going ahead and teaching some of the nurses functionalities of the system at least since we don't have our flowsheets completely finished.

for the accu-dose, how does it work for your facility? that is also another thing that i am researching currently for my hospital because we as of right now, we are still doing the old school way of manually typing everything and writing the glucose results in a sheet of paper in the chart. is there a special program for that or its just a "dock and load" type of thing?

i would appreciate any input and thank you :)

Good morning!

Our hospital is also going onto the McKesson adventure! I moved from NW Ohio this past December to NE Vermont to work as a 2nd clinical analyst for the McKesson project (Paragon). We will be using CCS also. I am primarily the lead on CPOE, BCMA and Pharmacy, my co worker is the lead on OM, Scheduling and CCS, along with her current duties.

We are moving from QuadraMed Affinity to Paragon. All systems have their pros and cons. It will be interesting to compare notes with each other as to how the build etc are going.

Are you on the paragon listserve? Lot's of good advice on there.

Take care and stay connected!

All the staff had 2 four hour days of computer training, but that was after the menus were built. I don't see how you can teach people how to use the menus if they are built. The learners will not know where things are located.

The Accu-dose is just the med dispensing system for us. We record our glucose readings in the measurements section of the flowsheet in CCS.

i dont know about paragon listserv. how do i access that? and as for my hospital, they put me as the lead for CCS, and soon CPOE. How long did it take you to build CPOE? and what did you have to do to make it happen?

and how long did it take for your hospital to have CCS built and up and running?

thank yo so much for your input!

:) hi!

we are in the build stage as well. we just started having classes in january (well financials started before then) clinicals pretty much started then. we are doing om, scheduling, financials, cpoe, ccs, pharmacy, bcma all in one big swoop! our go live is scheduled for august 15 of this year. we have had 3 visits from cpoe ic, this week we start building ccs. we have had 2 visits from pharmacy (maybe 3 not sure) and are working on getting the formulary good now. can't do a whole lot until that is golden then we can start working more on cpoe etc. it is a huge project that is for sure!

you need to set up an account on yahoo and "join" the listserve. you get approved and can post there and get some help from those who have been there, done that.

i've been a nurse for a long time, but have been in informatics for the past 10 years. my good friend that i now work with has been in the arena for even longer! i think about 15 years now! i know this is her third house wide implimentation! this is my second big one, but have had lots of little ones in between there too.

good luck! i will try to private message you with my business e mail and can tell you more on how to get to the list serve. \

Really HORRIBLE....it's slow, error message all the time, had one shift were all free text for over 4 hours was just lost, too many ways to do one simple task like check labs (which can lead to errors), too many redundant pop-up screens.....and I could go on!

For the ER, if WellSoft :yeah:is still being used....BEST ER charting program ever used! I did travel nursing so have 5 systems under my belt!

Any FYI.....the hospital I quit is already GRAVELY regretting this program!!! They are hemorrhaging money from it!! The floor nurses and lab are having issues as well.:uhoh3:

I do not like it. I preferred MediTech (even though MT looks ancient). McKesson is focused on being complex, when it should be simple. There are frequent failures, and (at my hospital) there is a time delay when moving between each tab in the assessment. The flow sheet does not "flow". The medication administration is full of problems with bar codes not scanning, and there are too many "pop ups" that slow things down and promote mistakes. I heard that they are investing a billion dollars in the program, but I doubt that this money will make the system more "simple".

Debbie,

Can you private inbox me the info for the Paragon listserve

Thanks

Leslie
