Anyone in the University of Sydney Graduate Entry Master of Nursing

Published

Hi,

I have been accepted into the Master of Nursing (Graduate Entry) program at the University of Sydney and was wondering if anyone here can give me any information on what its like ? Good/Bad or Otherwise ????

Also, can anyone tell me what the normal attendance pattern is for this degree, how many days will I have face to face lessons etc and how many hours a day for full time ?

Thanks

I imagine the school is the best place to advise you about required attendance. Can you give them a call?

Nope, but I'm in the Combined program with Arts, so it's possible I'll see you around next year! Haven't started any nursing subjects yet, but I agree with ghilbert, the coordinator is the best person to ask.

Hi, I just come accross with this thread. Merry Christams to you and everybody in this thread.

How did you apply for this Combined Program. Is it the paid Graduate Program for nurses? Is there any requirements. If it is a course, how much would it cost and the duration. Will it lead us to be registered with the Nursing Board? Thanks!!!!

You just apply through UAC, the Universities Admission Centre for NSW. You can also combine with Science, Health Science or Exercise and Sport Science. Yes, this does lead to nursing registration. The fees depend on what you combine with (Science subjects are most expensive, then Arts. Nursing is classed as a national priority and so is cheaper). If you're an Australian citizen you can put it on HECS. I think late applications are still open, you can check everything out at www.uac.edu.au

If you have anymore questions please ask.

Patnuman this is a 4 year course. I'm not really sure if this is what you are going for. This is not the Graduate Nurse Program - that is entirely different and offered for those students who have just been newly registered.

As an international student, you will be paying at least 20-25k per year for 4 years for this combined degree in Usyd.

Sydneystudent,

Have you decided whether or not you will attend? I've been conditionally accepted for the same program as well and am just waiting on final transcripts to be sent to get my firm acceptance. Who knows, maybe I'll see you there!

Hi SydneyStudent

The attendance pattern FT is 3days/wk (1 full day + 2 half days) of lec, tut and lab + clinical placement during mid- and towards end of the semester; that what it was like in 2008 (I am in my final yr of the course in 2009).

The course seems like a sweet gig, for a Master of Nursing program, BUT don't underestimate the course, there

alot of reading material and nursing skill, that you have to get up to speed with pretty quickly as they are not re-taught in subsequent course that follow e.g. Pharmacology for nursing, Biomedical therapies and nursing or re-emphasize as you will find in an undergraduate nursing degree.

Just a word of caution, if you fail a subject = extra yr (added to your course completion date)

N.B When the course was first introduce at Sydney uni, It had a failure rate of 60%!!!!!, that is 60/100 students

that commence the course never completed it. :bowingpur

The Master of Nursing (GE) course is meant for those who already have a degree (not in nursing) to obtain

registeration as a RN, while at the same time completing a Master of Nursing degree.

Yes you can do it as a combine degree e.g. Arts/MN, Sc/MN

The postive aspect of the course : Obtaining RN and MN status in 2yrs (MN will come in handy later on in your nursing career, "I hope so")

Negative aspect of the course: work load!!! (a pain), but "No Gain With Out Pain"

hope that helps

Hi everyone,

This course must be different from the Master of Nursing I was looking at.

The one I am loing at is 42 units over 1 yr (ft) or 2 yrs (PT).

This course is a post graduate course and does not lead to nursing registration. I think I was looking at UNE or it may have been Charles Sturt. I cant remember but it was only a few days ago.

As for the paid graduate 'course' mentioned earlier. No, the new graduate 'program' is for those who have completed their bachelor of nursing and are registered.
