Anyone in the TCC nursing program?

Nurses General Nursing

I applied last year in the middle of April, probably behind 100 applicants. I wan't not accepted but I was selected as alternate #30, which, lets face it, wasn't going to happen for me this year! It is because my gpa was low due to some bad stuff that happened to me in that last semester, and I got a C in BIO 142, but I did get an A in BIO 141. I reapplied and submitted my application in ON Sept. 1st. Hopefully I was one of the first they looked at. I am retaking Bio 142, and I know that they go off of how many times you have taken the course... but I hope that I get in! I am curious to know of people's GPA's so I can see if I have a chance!!!

The other thing is that, why do they only have their classes in Portsmouth? I live in Va Beach, and it is really frustrating to know that not only will I not be able to have a job... because they are so understanding when they made their courses day time only, but they also made it to where more than half of their students will have to drive in rush hour traffic over bridges and through tunnels. Is this a normal frustration for anyone in the program? Are classes REALLY typically Mon-Fri 8am-5pm? Is it impossible to hold a job... I really don't want to work at night, and I would prefer to have some sort of a day job, but I just wanting to know hopefully from someone who is going through it now. Thanks in advance!

BTW: I am talking about tidewater community college

The classes are in Portsmouth because that's just where they shoved the RN program. In 2010 (hopefully) the Portsmouth campus is moving from the Portsmouth/Suffolk border to central Portsmouth, so that may help the commute.

Classes are roughly from 8-3 Mon-Thurs for NUR 108, which is 4 days a week. After that class, the rest of the classes are either once or twice a week. There are no Friday classes.

Clinicals are usually on Tue & Thu: they can be day (6:30-2:30) or night (2:30-8:30). Unfortunately few instructors will let you choose which one you want: some go by whatever section you registered for in SIS; others will assign you where they want you (so you could get shoved in a night session when you registered for days). Some instructors do 12 hour clinicals one day a week.

Several of my classmates were able to work and go to school, so it's possible. Many of them worked as aides/LPNs in hospitals so they scheduled their shifts around their class schedules.

ok soo...im trying to apply to TCCs lpn to rn program next month. I am currently finishing up prereqs with ap142 and bi0150. Im not doing as well in 142 as id like. Im pretty sure im going to end up with a B in micro and a C in 142.
