Anyone taking the TEAS at LICHSON

Published

I'm applying to Long Island College SON and I registered for the TEAS for March 6 2009. Has anyone taken it there or at any school? What can I expect from this exam, based on what I've read so far it seems like a really hard exam. Anyone knows what is LICH'S passing grade for the exam.

What is the minimum GPA required for LICHSON, does anyone know?

I am taking the TEAS at LICHSON on 3/6/09.

Specializes in Oncology/Hematology.

Hi,

I'm not taking the TEAS at LICHSON, but I did take it twice here in California. I hear out TEAS is quite extensive compared to the rest of the nation (although I don't know for sure). In our test, we aren't allowed a calculator under any circumstance. We had the first section on reading comprehension which was a breeze and basically just had you answer short little questions using small paragraphs (not long essays with 6 questions following it as some exam books make you believe) and stuff like "draw this, turn the page x degrees, what does the figure look like?". It's all fairly straight forward. I went in and took the TEAS once just to see what it was about. I decided I wouldn't study for it or anything (not even a little) and just go in and take it. Then, if I did poorly I'd atleast know what to study. So I went in and took it and got 100% on both the reading comprehension part and the English part in the back. However, my overall score was an 84%, so I retook it last Saturday (and got the exact same test somehow..).

The sections you should worry about are math and science. Especially science. Math should be fine as long as you know ratios, conversions, and a lot of decimal/fraction basic math. But the science section was INSANE. Just pure insanity--random questions about insects, the atmosphere, MOUNTAINS and CLOUDS, rocks, etc. I probably had 2 questions which were anatomy/physio related, maybe one on microbio, a couple on chemistry, and then the rest was on GEOLOGY (which isn't even a prerequisite for nursing school around here). I couldn't believe it. So, naturally, I did terrible at the science section. It sucks because there really isn't a way to actually study for the thing. It's really just luck. You either know it or you don't.

A tip for the english section is to review when and where to use hyphens, colons, and semi-colons. That comes up a lot. But don't go and spend a million dollars on a practice book. You really don't need it.

GOODLUCK to you and everyone else preparing for your TEAS.

How is your studying, did you buy the study guide? I feel like I will never finish in time. Good Luck!

Thanks for the tip, I'm really doing my best, It's alot to absorp especially the math and science the two areas I'm concentrating on mostly......I don't see the point for the chemistry and geology crap but I guess that's the trick to spearate the weak from the strong. I'll let you know how I did.

Hi Triple A's,

How did u do on the teas? I got my score and got a 69.66%. I don't think I did so good. Do u know what the passing is? I'm just anxiously waiting, my overall gpa is 3.35 so I'm not sure if that will help me.

Hi Bishor,

I got a 69.9% also, My GPA is 3.70. I spoke with Ms.Barbara who said they look at the whole application, not just the TEAS. So I gues we should remain hopeful. Do you know anyone else who took the test, and received a call to interview?

Hi Triple A's,

Thanks for replying.....no I don't know of anyone but based on the previous threads it looks like they start interviewing by the first week in April and by May you should get an acceptance letter. I guess we should just keep our fingers crossed! good luck!
