Hello,
I am new here, this is my first post. My cc requires us to take physio separately after anatomy. Anyone else have this requirement?
I just started physio last week and I am already overwhelmed. I was really looking forward to this class, I loved both anatomy and micro.
So far, I am not liking it. It's very heavy on chemistry, sometimes I have to remind myself that I am in physio class.
I was just curious to see what everybody else thinks, and if it gets any better.
Please give me hope......

I took physiology separate from anatomy. It is heavy on the chemistry and challenging, but believe me, you will use it in nursing school so get it down now. Good luck, you can do it!

When I was in school I took physiology seperate from anatomy. It was a very hard class, and I studied ALOT for it. But in the end it paid off. Studying it now and taking the time to really know the material will really help in end. If you know the basic physiology stuff, you will be able to think through problems better in the future. Hang in there, study hard, and it will be worth it, trust me!

I'm taking physiology right now too. I had anatomy a few years ago, so I'm a little foggy when it comes to the minute details of structures, but other than that, I'm doing exceptionally well. Right now we're covering the digestive system and cellular respiration (you should remember doing that from micro!!!). I've actually found that a lot of the things covered in physiology were also touched upon in my micro and nutrition classes making it a lot easier to put the big picture together. One major key for me is being able to visualize the processes in order to understand what's happening. Stay on top of the class, ask lots of questions, read over your notes once a day or so and by the time it comes to studying for the exam you'll be 3/4 ready!

Here in Southern California you need to take Physio apart from Anatomy (or at least that's how it appears me at most CCs). Physio is my last pre-req to complete and fortunately I just finished my Chem last semester and did well, so a lot of the necessary information that is carried forward is still fresh in my mind.
As some have already said, current nurses and those in nursing school now really reiterate how much of the Phys information you will use, so it make sense that its going to be difficult and you should do everything you can to really learn and retain it for the future, not just get by.
My strategy is to review lecture notes immediately after the lecture and for some amount of time everyday, reading the corresponding information in the text and summarizing in writing in your own words, taping lectures to review difficult concepts, form study groups (I'm sure you have smaller more intimate labs to get to know your peers?), if necessary review the more challenging Chem principles that are implemented, and never hesitate to go the Prof. or any available TAs for clarification.
As I'm in the 4th week of the course now and we've yet to take the first exam I'm not sure if I'm doing enough to get the A grade I want, so we'll have to see. I am however, doing everything I did to achieve As in my other pre-reqs, so I feel confident.
Good luck! :nuke:

We take physiology separately from anatomy as well.
Anatomy was harder - but I loved it. Took anatomy first, then physio and then micro.

Yep, I'm taking them separately. Did anatomy last summer, and now I'm doing physio. I've loved it so far! We're in the nervous system.
Thank you so much for your feedback. Thank you Asherah for your studying tips.
This is my last pre-req before applying in July. I loved everything so far, I am just a little disappointed about this class. I love the subject, I love everything that has to do with the human body, maybe it's the teacher that I don't really like. His lecturing style is a little different from any other teacher I ever had.
But hopefully I will find my way in this class, and do well.
Thanks again, this website is great, and it's so nice to have such a support.
Best of luck to you all for this semester!!!!

I took Anatomy separate from Physiology and I was glad I did it that way. Out of all my pre-req's Phys was certainly the most hardest. But I got a B in it and it really is helping me in my Patho class in nursing school. You really need to try to understand the material because believe me, you will certainly be using all of that knowledge in Patho.
