Anyone take Pharmacolgy at OCC - Need Tips

Published

Hi All,

I will be taking Pharm Class in Winter 2009 at OCC (Oakland Communtiy College) would love to hear from OCC students that took the class for any pointers or suggestions since this class is only 7 weeks long.

...if you had to make drug cards - what size and information was needed. I would love to get a jump on the course so I can understand it more easily etc.

Thanks in advance

I took pharm this past Spring. Are you taking it at Highland Lakes? The instructor went directly off the syllabus outline, not the objectives. I made cards from the outline and did just fine. It's not as bad as I thought it would be.

I took pharm last spring at the Southfield campus. It was also 7 weeks. Not as bad as I thought. You could brush up your basic math skills as you will be tested on dosing calculations. But you should do fine.

Jugre,

Thanks for your input. I'll be taking Pharm on Jan 13 2009 at Southfield Campus for the LPN program

No problem! That class is easy compared to what you will be taking for your program. I'm in the ADN program and it's A LOT of work so get ready! Good Luck!

Jugre,

Glad to hear Pharm is going to be easy or easier in comparison to what you are now taking. Are you taking Fundamentals of Nursing now? If so, what is your schedule like? (Class and Study wise) Reason I ask is that I still hope to work part time (16 to 24 hrs per week)

All the LPN courses will be taught at Southfield campus and the ADN program is at Highland Lakes. Even though different campus', they should still be pretty much the same. I think :twocents:

Yes, I'm in Fundamentals right now (they call it theory). I have class on Monday's which is Fundamentals (theory) lecture. Then I have lab on Thurs/Friday for 3 hours a day. So I'm in school for 9 hours a week. The nursing home clinicals are only for two weeks and it takes the place of our lab class. After all that, I will start acute care clinicals for 7 weeks. So I will be in school 2 days a week( I'll have skils lab on Tues) but have clinicals 2 days a week as well. The instructors told us that we should be study for at least 6 hours per class. Like how many hours the class is times 2. So, I should be studying at least 18 hours a week. So, you could work but I would keep it more ont the 16 hours a week schedule than 24. It's a lot of studying! LOL! Luckily I don't have to work but I hope to get some type of intern/externship this summer. Let me know if I confused you by all this! LOL...I hope it makes sense!
