Hey all!! Needing some reviews/advice/tips.

I just enrolled in a Kaplan NCLEX review course. It is the week after I graduate. Highly recommended by everyone I've talked to who has passed boards. However, I am taking it online and not in a physical classroom. It is 4 days long and 8 hours everyday through a virtual classroom. The only physical class close to me was a MONTH after I graduated. I want to take NCLEX with my knowledge fresh!

Anyone take Kaplan online? How was it? Was it similar to the physical classroom?

Thank you!! :)

Hello Laura09,

I took Kaplan's online class. It was OK. I tried using the content review guide on my ipad but I needed to use the physical book because I wasn't learning anything. After I got the book, I read half of it because I thought the presentation was very dry and it was difficult concentrating for long periods of time. I watched all of the lectures and they were basically just reading straight from the content review book. The practice questions they have are really good, but I was suspicious of the lectures that went over the questions. I stopped watching those videos altogether.

Eventually I relied on my Saunders review guide. That book was like my holy grail, it had everything I needed, in fact it propably had way more than I needed! I still used my Kaplan content review guide for pharmacology and immunization schedules and a couple of other things, so it wasn't totally useless.

What I really liked was Kaplan's question bank. After answering several hundred questions I was able to condition myself to sitting down for longer periods of time and answering more and more questions. I was able to dissect each question and I felt that I was beginning to understand what exactly they wanted from me. I think I answered around 3000 questions in total between Kaplan and Saunders (mostly from Kaplan). There are lectures that give tips on test taking strategies and those lectures are the most valuable in my opinion.

I failed the NCLEX the first time, but then I studied for a couple of months with Kaplan's online course and Saunders and passed.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your input!! I am gonna have to settle my butt down and focus. I too, have difficulty paying attention for those long online classes. Online was my only option. The only physical class was WEEKS away. Frustrating living in a small town in Iowa.
