How is your experience at North?
How was Prof GB?that question is more for a friend of mine who starts the generic in Jan.I am not sure but I don't think she goes beyond foundation.
Are there any Prof or instructors that you would recommend to avoid at all cost?
Health Alt I and lab I've seen the ratings on this professor but how would you describe her and how do your successfully flow through her class?
Who would you recommend for health I clinicals?
I think Prof.S deals with trans people initial how would you describe her?
What about Health Alt 2 and 3?
How were the professor?
Who would you recommed for those clinicals?
Where did you get most of your supplies from?A
Are there textbooks easy to find off campus?
Did you find that you needed a Pda?

hello teach i briefly sent you a message about some questions about n campus.i plan on starting the program god's willing in may o9 as a transition.i think that is right in the midst of you graduating-premature congrats. thanks! must say slightly envious of your situation but i'll live lol. don't be. forgive me if my question seem to come fast and furious but i have alot on my mind.how is your experience at north?it's okay. attending bc was a big change for me. prior to coming here, i was in a grad school program. so, it's different than what i'm used to. teachers and students are both a little rude but it's tolerable. how was prof gb?that question is more for a friend of mine who starts the generic in jan.i am not sure but i don't think she goes beyond foundation.she does only teach foundations, process i and ii. she is very organized. she gives you a lot of info during lectures. there's a lot of useful info on her website, except for the book list. there are too many books on there. some of them i've never used. she can be a little negative. she complains about cheating a lot and her test are very tricky compared to the other teachers in the program, but overall, she's okay.are there any prof or instructors that you would recommend to avoid at all cost?yes, but unfortunately, you don't have an option. there's only one teacher for each course. health alt i and lab i've seen the ratings on this professor but how would you describe her and how do your successfully flow through her class?read the book, read the book, and then, reread the book. she's nice and inspirational but she doesn't give you much in lecture. use her lecture as a guide as far as what to learn from the book. who would you recommend for health i clinicals?doesn't matter. mrs. gb will assign clinical groups and that's who you're stuck with. after process, you can change clinical groups by asking another student to switch with you b/c the clinicals are offered at different times. however, during process, all of the clinicals are at the same time. so, there's no way of getting away from a clinical instructor. i think prof.s deals with trans people initial how would you describe her?not sure who this is. i can't think of a prof s right now?!?what about health alt 2 and 3?haven't got there yet. but the teacher for ha2 is ill. so, you never know who you'll have until right before the course starts. we may have to drive to another campus if they can't find anyone on our campus to teach it. how were the professor?ha 2 - can't say it depends on who teaches it.ha 3 - haven't taken it yet and haven't heard anything from others either. so, she can't be too bad.who would you recommed for those clinicals?process i and ii - you don't have a choice. just pray for a good one.ha1 - all are okay except for ms. t, whose goal is to make students miserable.specialties (psych, ob, peds) - all are okaytrends - doesn't matter b/c they drop you off and leaveha 2, ha3 - don't knowwhere did you get most of your supplies from?i bought the bundle from the book store, which i'm not sure i would recommend. ask students what they use not teachers. i swear that get kick back from the book store. i spent a couple hundred dollars for books that i never opened!:angryfire during the specialties, some friends and i who were taking the classes in different orders, rotated the books. so, we each bought one book. there are students in the program who only buy the previous edition of each book. they save a lot of money. although some prof will tell you that you have to have the new edition. apparently not.are there textbooks easy to find off campus?yes, there are two bookstores off campus. one is located in a gas station at the back entrance to the school and one is in a shopping plaza on coconut creek pkwy near the front entrance. also, a lot of students use half.com or make friends with upperclassman who are usually willing to loan books. did you find that you needed a pda?nope. only on one occasion when i was administering a new drug that wasn't in my drug guide. but i just used someone else's pda to look it up. most students don't have a pda. most who use a pda, use the one on their cell phones.can you give me an idea of how your classes are offered?i started in jan 2008. here's what my schedule looks like. i don't think the transition students do process i. but other than that i believe your schedule is the same. you just have fewer clinical hours. your friend who starts in jan will have the same schedule that i have. classes are m and f from 9-12 except for ha 1 and ha 2 which are 1-4.winter (jan-may)nursing process i (jan-spring break)nursing process ii (march-may)summergi/gi aka ha 1 (may -june) - no problem. i'm happy to help. getting info about this program can be difficult. it's probably easier to get national security secrets than it is to get info from anyone at bc about the nursing program. :chuckle

Oh I have another question for you now, Leaving...
Do you have to take OB for one of the specialty rotations, pysch for another and peds for the third, or can you take all three peds or all three OB??

there's only one course of each specialty and you have to take all three. i wish i could choose. i would definately choose 2 semesters of psych and skip ob!
ha! i guess since i'm not in the program yet, i don't really know a whole lot about nursing and the different specialties, but i would totally choose ob over all!! second would be peds. maybe i will like pysch more when i learn more about it, and maybe i'll hate ob!
Teach again I say thanks a million
Prof S deals primarily with Trans and Peds
What about Mtb?How was it and who did you have for that class?
I've looked at that book list on GB's site it is awfully confusing. Some of the books I am not sure pertains to me and I wanted to get a head start in terms of bargain shopping but geesh everytime I looked at that massive book list my head does a 360.What percentage of your original class is intact?
Whats with all these TBA'S is there a trick to figuring out which professors especially when it relates to clinicals belongs to those times?
teach again i say thanks a million prof s deals primarily with trans and peds oh, okay! i completely drew a blank. i absolutely loved this professor. she is my favorite so far. she has always wanted to teach peds and it shows. i don't know anyone who has issues with her. now, that doesn't mean that her tests are easy. i just liked her as a person. and she tests from her notes!what about mtb?how was it and who did you have for that class?mtb is basic 6th grade math. it's all proportions and ratios. however, some people have trouble if they haven't seen math in a while. we are so calculator dependent that some people have forgotten how to do long division. i took mrs. gb. i would recommend her. she starts off very basic. i've looked at that book list on gb's site it is awfully confusing.some of the books i am not sure pertains to me and i wanted to get a head start in terms of bargain shopping but geesh everytime i looked at that massive book list my head does a 360.most of the books on the book list are optional in my opinion (and the opinion of most students). for process i and ii, you need the two perry and potter books (fundamentals and skills), drug guide, cox care plan book (you could share this with another student) and fluids and electrolytes made easy.for ha 1, 2, 3 - you need the med surg book and study guide.ha3 - eeg made easyeach specialty has a book.this is just off the top of my head. if you want to read ahead, get the fundamentals book and the reading list from gb's website.what percentage of your original class is intact?

it's difficult to say now b/c we're in specialties so my class is mixed with students who are all at different places in the program. but i know a lot of people have failed out of the program or are off track. my clinical group in process i started with 11 and only 3 remain in the program on track. my class started with 125 first semester, by the second semester we were less than half of that. but that doesn't affect me or you at all. just because other people fail, it doesn't mean that you won't pass.
whats with all these tba's is there a trick to figuring out which professors especially when it relates to clinicals belongs to those times?
tbas at north campus doesn't matter because we don't register for clinical instructors. you show up to class and you're assigned to a group. the only point of registering for a lab/clinical group is to pay the fees. other campuses may have the students register directly.

Leaving Teaching..
I had emailed you recently about the BC program. I am or was an elementary school teacher also and making the change now in Jan. Taking my prereqs and applying to BC or NSU for Aug 09. Was wondering if you're still contemplating your decision about making the change to nursing. After a BS and an MS it's difficult to start again but I wasn't happy teaching and can't see myself there again. I read that you're more than half way done. How are you feeling about your decision now that you're almost an RN??
leavingteaching4rn, are you also a tutor at bc north?
are you also a tutor at bc north?
nope. sorry to dissappoint!

i'm a little nervous about my decision. i'm definantly not looking forward to paying dues again. my first year teaching, i was on the worst team ever. my coworker and i, who were both new teachers, were mistreated and disrepected in ways i could not have imagined. based on some of my clinical experiences, i fear that my introduction to nursing may not be much better.
i entered teaching thinking that i was going to save the world! boy, was i surprised about how much saving the world needs. i'm not entering nursing with the same type of enthusiasm. i plan to be professional and do a great job each shift. however, i'm not expecting to work miracles.
i don't feel like i'm under the same amount of stress or urgency as some others because i know if this doesn't work out i have a back up plan. not a great backup plan but one where i'll make 50k not one working at the mall.
when i graduate, i'm going to try to go straight into a specialty. med/surg just doesn't seem like my cup of tea. i'm not looking forward to working on holidays or nights or weekends, but i know it comes with the territory. nonetheless, i'm going to try to avoid the nights. i'm a little nervous because the nursing program feels like i'm in the middle of finals week each day. since, it's so intense and i'm learning so much i fear that i'm forgetting info, but i've been reassured by others that this is how most students feel.
anyway, i hope i've answered your question somewhere in this rambling reply. good luck. let us know how it goes.
