I’m due to graduate from my 5 year monitoring program (KARE) in 13 days. The countdown has begun! Whoo Hoo! I’m SO excited!
Because of a medication that I take for a sleep disorder, some of my drug screens are positive— which take a FULL week to result.
Has anyone been selected to test the final week of your program- or do you know of anyone that has? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’m discharged on my expected date. We’re leaving for vacation a few days after my “graduation”. However, if I get picked to test the day before discharge- that will be hanging another full week! I have asked my case manager about this. She said that worst case scenario would be my selection right before discharge — I would be required to continue checking into Affinity until the test came back. My program d/c would be delayed until it resulted.
I don’t drink (not my DOC) but I would LOVE to go to restaurants with my husband while we’re out of town & not have to interrogate the waiters/ servers about what EXACTLY is in the sauce, exactly what seeds are on the bread, etc., LOL! Just the very SIMPLE pleasure of going to a restaurant & ordering ANY food off the menu without worry!
I think if I log into Affinity the 3-4 days before d/c & see that message in RED letters on a pink background “You have been selected for testing today”- I will literally cry! I know that sounds crazy after 5 years of check-ins. It’s amazing how agonizing a few more days would be!
I can see the end...I’m almost there...!
Just curious if this has happened to anyone. Any Affinity (or other third party) test selections right before your discharge date?

I’m not trying to be a complete downer here but I’d count on it

I was selected to test approx. 1 day prior to completion and right before an approved trip out of town. I would have been finished with monitoring well before results were in, obviously a waste of my money. I called my case manager, not expecting much but she had the wisdom and graciousness to cancel the test.
That’s awesome that she cancelled! Very compassionate of her. At least that’s something I can ask about, if selected.
In my Affinity fantasy/delusion, I can see the Affinity person sitting at the Affinity desk, behind the big Affinity computer, saying, “Well, KyBeagle is due for her random test today. She’s been compliant for 5years, so, nah, we won’t do that to her on the last week. Let’s REWARD her by letting her save a few bucks”. ???️??
