Applicants at my job had to be employed for a year, excellent attendence and an above average yearly evaluation. At that time, there were spaces for 100 employees; we were all interviewed twice, one with the director of the program and another panel interview. We had to produce letters of reference from at least two supervisors. I was on several committees and got 15 letters (yeah, I was aggressive). If you had previous college credits, they had to be submitted, and the letters went out about two months later. I was still on vacation when I got the call and I had to rush home two days before I was due back (thank goodness it was only a 4 hour drive). I remember getting home at 5am, staying up until 9 to call the woman back, and she told me that I had to get to the college the same day to pay for the application/admission fee. I didn't get sleep for two days. Ran down to the school with my immunization records and money order. Allowed to register. The next day, the school called to tell me that they needed the labs for my immunizations, so, I ran to the doctor, obtained them, and faxed them. The school called me back to say they received them, and 10 minutes after that, the 2 day blackout of NYC occurred. Talk about a near miss!! Everytime I read about that black out, I think about the career that almost didn't happen.
