Anyone planning to apply to OCCC's BADNAP program 2015?

I'm trying to finish my prereqs or be eligible to apply for BADNAP 2015. Anyone else? I'm hoping to connect with a few people now so we can go through the process alongside others.

Good luck everyone!!! It is a difficult program, but you can do it and you can make As. You have to be able to prioritize. You have to be able to use ATI and Quizlet to your advantage and not fall behind in your reading schedule. And it is a lot of reading...more than I had in law school. (I have a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor's.) This is as much about critical thinking as the content itself, because you learn principals but on the test apply them to a totally new scenario. It will be important to do as many NCLEX style questions as possible covering the subject matter on the test, so if you wait until the last minute to read, you will not have time to prepare properly. At least, that is my advice, and I did well in the class. (4.0 every semester)

Hunger4justice is spot on. She also maybe one of the smartest persons I've ever met. She is also one of a single handful of people who have maintained a 4.0 in all the years of badnap. Needless to say, you all will survive. You'll be 20lbs heavier, behind on all your favorite things, but you'll survive. Typical A students have a really tough time maintaining that in badnap.

Not to be a downer, just want to provide realistic expectations. Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the advise michealjarvis! Did you use eBooks or did you buy the physical textbooks? Also, do you have any clinical site recommendations? I was going to put them in nearest to farthest order.

The assigned facility and unit options are: Midwest City, Deaconess Hospital, Integris Baptist Medical Center, Integris Southwest Medical Center, McBride, and St.Anthony.

Is anyone planning to work part time during BADNAP courses? Alumni, did any of you work, or is it just impossible to work even part time?

A lot of people worked, even though it is not recommended, because a lot of people have to work. You can still do it. I got the prior edition used (sometimes paying only 3 or 4 dollars) and then I did end up getting ebooks or the PDF versions. I never actually used the hard copies, but that was just me. I like being able to blow up the print when my eyes are tired. Videos are helpful (on You Tube or otherwise). Plus, they give you a TON of skills videos that you are required to watch, also helpful. The most important thing is to cover all the topics and read all the highlighted boxes in your assigned readings. ATI and Quizlet are your best friends as far as studying main points. I also used a LOT of audio material. Evolve resources had a lot of audio summaries but only for past editions. Try to understand the pathophysiology, not just memorize, because the tests are NCLEX style, so you will have to apply the material to a totally new set of facts that you have never seen before, and pick the best answer, even if there are several that are correct. After covering the material, you ought to do as many NCLEX style questions on those topics as you can find. There are lots free online, but that is only after you think you know the material. Don't try to be perfect, because it is impossible. Remember, other people have done it, so you can do it as well.

A few more questions for you, when you have time, I know one day a week we're in class and then once clinicals start they are two days a week. How do labs fit into the schedule? On the days that you weren't in class, labs or clinicals, did you just study all day?

Also, what should we always bring class, and were there any office/study supplies that were especially helpful?

That is very helpful advice; thanks :) I was reluctant to get e texts in the pre-req classes but after seeing how useful it is to search the text and carry it with you on an ipad or tablet as opposed to hauling around 50 lbs of books, I think I want to try that. It wouldn't eliminate a backpack entirely since we have to have other tools, but it would sure lighten the load.

I did get notice I'm officially accepted now, and very excited. I'm trying to find a CPR class in Edmond or west OKC - anyone else have any luck finding one that qualifies around here? I notice the information says American Heart Association - Healthcare Providers ONLY. Don't know if that means only AHA classes qualify or not. I will probably put in a call to OCCC and ask.
