Anyone planning to apply to OCCC's BADNAP program 2015?

U.S.A. Oklahoma

I'm trying to finish my prereqs or be eligible to apply for BADNAP 2015. Anyone else? I'm hoping to connect with a few people now so we can go through the process alongside others.

Lab during the first semester was very heavy but each semester the lab schedule gets lighter. I think in NP1 we had lab 2 times a week. A lot of people started study groups from their lab groups.

Most of the people who worked during our program were already in the medical field. I have a business background so I feel like I had to use all my time to learn.

In my opinion for NP1 you don't have to pick the facility you want to work at after school. I would choose the one that is closest to you b/c the first semester is really about getting comfortable with everything (crazy schedule, the readings, lab check offs, care plans, etc).

I agree with what hunger4justice said. Also, don't get too discouraged or overwhelemed. Just take it day by day, even if that means one day you have a break down. Make a few friends and study with them. Do the ATI tests ahead of schedule and do as many of them as possible. The success books are excellent study resources too b/c they are packed full of test questions and rationales. I have the fundatmentals, maternal newborn and med/surg.

Good luck everyone. You guys will do great. BADNAP has some of the best professors!

Thanks for the info!

Do you remember if at the orientation they assign any reading or quizzes that have to be completed by the first day of class? I know other nursing students from other universities have said to expect that, but I wasn't sure if they did that for BADNAP.

Yes. We had readings for the first three weeks and NESA videos with quizzes that you had to complete. You can retake the NESA videos until you get the desired score.

I would highly suggest splitting up the modules, if it is allowed. We would normally split them up in our lab or clinical groups. Might look into google docs.

I'm looking into a career change (teaching to OR Nursing); if I finished a bachelor's degree (and a master's) from OU, typically how many of the pre-req's should I anticipate having to take before I apply for the BADNAP? I had to complete 40 hours of gen ed's at OU, so I should be mostly covered, right? TIA

I started this thread two years ago when taking prereqs and then ended up teaching for two more years. Because of the current state of education in Oklahoma, I'm finishing up my prereqs this summer & fall, hoping to apply for Badnap in February. Should we start a new thread for those who might be applying for 2017-18?

I think it just depends what sciences you've had. You need chemistry, microbiology, a&p 1, a&p 2, nutrition, and then developmental psych.
