Hello,
I am just wondering who is in this program and what your thoughts are on its quality, your experience etc. I am applying this fall and admissions said they get 1,000 apps for 240 spots. Is this true? I know they don't have a waiting list so those that don't get in have to reapply the following year. Any tips on boosting my app?
Thanks

Hi,
I graduated from UCHSC. Overall I was pleased with the program. What I liked most is that you can still have a life and work outside of school. A lot of classes are offered online so sometimes you only have to be on campus 1-2x a week. When you do clinicals there is a "lottery system" so you rank the hospitals and usually you will get your first of second choice. Most of the professors are great. Nursing school is hard work, but definitely worth it. The school also offers several scholarships to students. I think the first semester of nursing school was the busiest. I did not really have any healthcare experience when I applied. I did have a previous bachelor's degree. My advice is that your grades and the essay are very important. If your grades are not the greatest, make sure you have a great essay that shows who you are and experiences that have molded you and your desire to become a nurse. There are no letters of recommendation for applying. So it really boils down to essay and grades. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks for the input. I submitted my app just yesterday. I also have a prior Bachelor's and Master's degree in psychology. My grades aren't bad by any means, but I figured that is what they mostly looked at, plus your essay for admission. Good to here that you can work also while in the program. I feel my essay is pretty strong because I have a lot of helathcare experience having been a CNA for more than 4 years, I have worked in a variety of hospital settings.

I just graduated from UCHSC. They seem to want to see something about your experiences and thoughts about diversity and what you will bring to the field of nursing. I wasn't accepted the first time I applied; I was the second after I tailored my essay to diversity and what I brought to the table.
I was really happy with the program overall and loved my clinical assignments. There are a few online professors that leave a lot to be desired in terms of professionalism and presentation of material to facilitate learning.
I worked part time all through school and for the most part it was no big deal. If you can land a position as a nurse intern it really furthers your learning experience.
Good luck with your application.
