Anyone notice Kaplan had same question in two Trainer tests and...

....gave two different answers for it???

Seriously. I had a question in #4 about how to care for AIDS patient's Kaposi lesions, chose an answer they told me was correct (and why, for the same reasons I chose it). In a nutshell, I said to wash daily with mild soap, pat dry. Period.

Thought I was having de je vous when I had the same question (reworded, but exact same situation, and two of the answer choices were identical; the other answer choices were nearly identical--the same for all reasonable purposes). Answered like I had on the first test. Got it wrong.

Rationale this time had the correct answer being wash daily and cover with sterile dressing...huh??? Said lesions should be covered (let's forget for the time being that home procedures are never sterile). First time, it had the things uncovered.

Aside from my total frustration with Kaplan and their inability to remain consistent on much of anything (lab values are also variable from question to question for the exact same items).....does anyone know the CORRECT procedure, just in case NCLEX figures I should know???

Losing it, I think.

bumping this....'cause I still don't know if this thing needs a dressing or not...!

Yeah I noticed that too....i got the AIDS question wrong on the first time it showed up in one of the trainers..then got it right when it showed up the second time on a different trainer....i don't know

BTW...thanks for the tutorial heads up :) did it already.

Hey RNs2brwe.......not that you NEED this anymore (heh), but I am at QT 6 and came accross the same question. For anyone else who was confused....there is a difference between the two. The earlier question indicates that the lesions are closed and dry. In this second time around, the lesions are open and need to be covered so as to prevent infection or cellulitis.

After reading this, I hadda go back and check . Ooops. I had missed a single word, "open" on the second question, and obviously that made all the difference! Drat. I was so cranked about it, lol, I missed the one word that made a change. But really, that's a nasty little picky thing, isn't it? ;)

Thanks, whoagracie :)

yes, it really is. that's why kaplan is so frustrating sometimes!! sorry for "calling you out" haha.....i had just been so aggravated after reading your post and starting to feel from some other questions that kaplan is unreliable.

you know that pre-test anxiety!!! i just want to believe that kaplan IS accurate.

Well, then, I won't tell you about the bona-fide mistakes that the Kaplan instructor said would have to be changed, lol....the outdated info WAS outdated, the Q-bank gave #1 as the correct answer but according to the rationale they meant #2, etc. Being on your toes makes all the difference!

And the grading thing is off, too....it's just math, no debate. I went through my Q-bank quizzes (as did friends of mine) and found that on 3/4 of them, the grades Kaplan gave were off. Usually too high. Go figure!

You can believe in the course overall. I thought it was really good, overall: gave me lots of good strategy, and hard questions, much harder and more indepth, IMO, than other review material I'd tried. That should go A LONG way toward easing anxiety....if you can handle Kaplan, you can handled the NCLEX!! :)

yes, I agree, I notice there lab values are not consistant, but all in all, I am learning ALOT from these hard as hell questions.
