I'm now working for 2 Peds home care agencies, and would like to know about peds vent cases. I'm thinking about taking the training, and getting a vent case in the near future. Anyone with any stories or ideas? Thanks. Peace and love to all, WW.
Anyone with any experience in this area? All replies appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
I've been on a vent case for a little over a year. I absolutely love it. I lucked out and got a sweet little girl with a wonderful supportive family. Some aren't so fortunate. I plan to stick with this for a while. It was a welcome change from everything else I had done in nursing. But beware, these little ones will steal your heart! Good luck.

HI, I have been doing high tech peds home care since 1987.....that is the year I met Denny...........who was 7at the time and had just become vent dependent due to a car accident and becoming a quad. So I say go for it. I love my kids...that's what I call them..........my kids;)
Thanks guys!! Is the training hard??

I doubt if anyone will post an awful experience with a vent. dep. child - most I heard about and come across in the community have had delightful elements to them.
Other diagnoses may cause more of an issue e.g. can the child move him/herself and if not, what is the weight? Very mobile, very young kids can learn to unhook themselves and reattach themselves to get into play houses etc which means super careful supervision.
Training is a breeze, please do not worry about that.
But, on a related topic - Ohio is a state where RNs can be Independent Providers for Medi-Cal. There is a huge population of underserved children needing nursing care (other than thru family members). I do this is SoCal for Medi-Cal and it's wonderful work - my client(s), my schedule, always treated well and no crisis calls if you set it up right from the beginning.
Food for thought, I hope.
Thanks for the tip indie. I'm looking forward to investigating this further. I want to get started with training soon.
