Anyone know about Maryville's FNP program?

I am writing to see if anyone has attended or heard good things about Maryville University's FNP program? They are starting a new online FNP program next year, but am kind of leery because I am not able to find much about the program. Also, does anyone know where I might find FNP certification pass rates per university?

Hello there everyone, I am in Columbia, MO and I officially finished my BSN today at MU. I already talked to a recruiter and hoping to get into the FNP in the Spring of 2013. Are you guys all starting this August 2012?

I was wondering if you had any information re: the clinical preceptorship and what kind of support is provided by Maryville in regards to that.

I have been talking to an admissions counselor who says they really dont restrict where you complete your clinical hours (location or setting) however, they do not provide any assistance with a preceptor. Any information on that?

As I have read, most schools allow you to complete your practicum in your community. If one chooses to complete the practicum in another place or state, they'll have to abide by that states nursing laws; be licensed in the state of choice for the practicum.

Yes Maryville will assist us but to what degree I am not real sure but my advisor told me that they do help us with preceptorship. However, I would still be looking around for potential preceptors. My advice would be not to wait and getting started as soon as you know you're accepted into MVU is a very wise move. Clinicals (and hours) must match/coincide with the discipline that we are studying at that time. I hope that this helps !!

Question.

How does MU prepare students to go out in the field to correctly perform skills for primary care? For example: ear examinations, liver palpation, prostate exams, or pap smears? I know that there is an Advanced Health Assessment class that requires 80 clinical hours; will these skills be learned then?

I too have been accepted. There is an advanced health assessment class which is taken the second year of study with the clinical component of the program. The entire program helps with these types of assessments but the clinical portion of the program in conjunction with classroom work equips the students for clinical assessments of patients.

I am hoping that I can get enough loans (private and graduate) to pay for school. My undergraduate loans are expensive now.

Has anyone else had any problems or any advice? :confused:

MU has On campus classes once a semester. I know that you have to go and check-off by the instructor. I took the RN-BSN tract and that is how it was.

Well, aggregate amounts are $138,000 total including both undergraduate and graduate loans. If you have come near this amount then you will need more funds unless you are like myself and have just enough funds left to complete your program......
