I just applied to the Jeff State Night/weekend RN program. Did anyone else. What have you heard about the cut off scores etc? What have you heard about the program?

Hi there. I applied too. I know 2 semesters ago the cut off was 171 but I keep hearing 178-180 lately. I called Friday to try & see what last semester's cut off was & how many had applied for Fall 08 but I was told they didn't have time to answer any questions right now. I have 187 pts which I thought was good but now I'm worried. Wonder when we will find out? Let's post when we get our letters, good or bad.

hey paula
yeah...who knows...I called too but did not get any answers except that letters would go out in 4-6 weeks. I have 180 points. I have been told at UAB that I could get in the accelerated program, so I am in shock that my grades may not be good enough for Jeff State! I think the real problem is that they cannot expand the program because they cannot staff it. Do you work in the field now?
paula
are you trying to get in the night or day program?
I thought the pt program was the night program. Is there a day & night pt program? I just checked pt on the app.
I don't work in the field now - what about yourself? And yes, I can't imagine being told you could get into the accelerated program at UAB & not be able to get into Jeff State!!
It already seems like we turned in those apps forever ago......this is going to be a loooong wait.
I just talked with someone at the advising desk who told me that the point cut-off for last semester (summer) was 180. She didn't know yet how many people had applied for Fall 08 but said it appeared to be a larger than average number. She also stated that everyone should know who's in or not by mid June. So, that's what like 3 more weeks?! Did anyone here go to the "pre-nursing" session at the beginning of May? I didn't know anything about it until it was over.
Hey Paula,
I am sorry to confuse, yes, the Pt program is the night program. Now, what you said that the adviser said about the cut off form Summer...just to be clear, I am assuming last summer (07) which is the last time they let people into the part-time program. To my knowledge they only admit to the pt program once per year, apps due spring/summer and classes start in the fall. I just got finished taking Bio 202 and I believe that almost everyone in the class was applying to the Pt program, so I can imagine that they have had a great deal apply. Yes, it is going to be a long wait. I work in Pharmaceutical Sales. enjoyed talking to you!
oh, and NO I did not go to the pre-nursing session. Although I called many times to find out when it would be no one seemed to be able to communicate it to me correctly. However from all of my experiences thus far with Jeff State, I am not shocked.
OK, I hate to admit this but no, I didn't realize that the pt program only admitted once a year. I guess I read the dates for the applications & just assumed that since there was a deadline for each term that they admitted each tomorrow. Sooo, the 180 would have been for summer 08's term & not the pt program as I just asked for last semester's cut-off. OK, so now that I realize this I will REALLY stress about getting in this go 'round.

I applied to the part-time program. The nursing advisor said 180 pts to be competitive. My pts she thought was about 190 - how do they figure the points? I do not have that sheet anymore. She also told me yesterday they recieved 500-600 applications (that includes LPN, part and full-time RN) and it will be mid June. Good luck to all!!
190 is really good. I had 180. If I remember correctly, they take 3 classes for the one set of points, 1-college level biology, anatomy/physiology, and a 3rd science class or you can count a college math. in that category you get 30 points for a's and 20 for b's. Then the math category you get 11 pts for a's (not sure about what you get for b's..c's etc)Then you take the compass reading test and get whatever points you make on that out of 99. Or can use a act/sat reading score and they have a chart to translate those scores to the point system.
I am on tenterhooks waiting for those letters to come out! The program seems to be overly competitive due to spacing and instructor limitations.
do you work in the med field now?...is this a career change for you?
