I put it off for years. Now, I done raising the children and I want to do it. I'm looking for information on obtaining certification for L&D / Obstetric nursing. Not trying to be a midwife. Just certification in L & D / OB. I have 10 years of Obstetric nursing, predominantly in LDR. I did some antenatal clinic nursing. I have worked occassional L & D per diem in the last 3 years. Can you obtain certification on-line? If any one knows, please forward web-site address. Thanks Treasure30

a helpful site for you.
you cannot obtain cert online that I know of, but you CAN register and then study, and later on, take the test by computer at a designated site when you are ready.

NCC is the place for impatient OB and other certifications. There is another certification body...I can't think of the name right now..but they require a BSN to certify with them (BOOO)....I have impatient OB certification and the whole process to apply is right there on the website. The test is tough...just like boards....but a great thing to have.
Smiley...did you take the test yet?????

:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle I used to get the certification booklet regularly. NCC, that's what I've been saying for the last 4 months. I think it NCC or NCCGO, :chuckle , something like that, :) . I've had my BSN for 13 yrs. I think I am going to get a degree in accounting or something, but I want to finish all the area of nursing (certifications) before I go forward or change. This certification is one, dialysis and some small teaching. Then an Accounting degree. No special reason, just want to do something different.
Thanks SmilingBluEyes. I'm going to check out the site next. Treasure30
I Take it in April. THanks for the well wishes.
ANCC has BSN-only certs.
ANCC...thats it....i thought about it in the middle of the night...lol.
Good luck in April. I didn't take mine on computer though...it was paper and pencil...just like when I took boards...bleck...and waited almost 6 weeks to find out results.
I want to take the added certificate of qualification in fetal monitoring...but I am skeered. I have EFM certification, but have heard that test is really hard. Know of anyone that has taken it????
I work with a gal who did....and she did great. I think if you can do inpatient ob nursing, and work with FHM at all.....and have been thru the AWHONN FHM series, you have a good jump on it. I know AWHONN has a FHM book, several hundred pages of strips, physiology, etc. This is probably what you would like to get your hands on to study for that test. Good luck! I will try and find it and post it here when I do.

I want to second that. I am glad I went for my RNC (inpatient OB). It was well worth it. I took a 2 day prep course and it was wonderful! It was a great review of systems! That exam was the first one I ever took on a computer!

I am certified in inpatient OB nursing. You cannot get it online. You have to take the test somewhere that offers it. The NCC offers the test at many different sites throughout the year. My hospital actually hosted it this past summer b/c we had enough staff interested in taking it. Talk to your nurse manager about it and she should be able to help you, or contact the NCC.

:uhoh21: Hi! I am taking my RNC exam on Monday. I have been studying the review questions, and Maternal Newborn book. I still feel unprepared even though I have worked in L & D for years. Any feedback would be appreciated! Anyone recently take the exam? Thanks. :-)
