Hi everyone, I am new to allnurses. I have applied to Gaston College's nursing program for Fall 2011 and I was wondering if there is anyone who went there that could give me any information about the program? Also, is there anyone who has also applied for fall or is attending now? Thanks for any information!:)

Hello : )

I am in the ADN-RN program at Gaston and I am graduated May 2011 (30 days!!). I am 27 with a child and a part time job. This has been the hardest experience of my entire life. I will say, this program has some of the most helpful, experienced, dedicated nursing instructors around. They are always there to offer advice, help, and a shoulder to cry on. The one thing about this program is, if you are not 110% committed, it wont work. It consumes your whole life and basically becomes your life for 2 years. But, it is soooo worth it : ) Good Luck to you. If you ever need any help or advice my email is [email protected]. I live near Dallas. And, dont wait until halfway throught the semester to ask for help if you are struggling. Get on track early! Good Luck : )

Congrats butterfly2484! It looks like we will be getting to know each other in August. I got into the RN program as well.

Congrats babydoll3375! I am looking forward to starting in the fall! We will have to start a support system :)

Wow I haven't been on here in awhile. Yes I did get accepted. I also got into the LPN program and I am having trouble deciding which one I want to do. I want to do the RN but I am just worried about having enough time. I have a 2 1/2 year old and an 11 month old. I won't have to work during the program though. What do you guys think, I already accepted my spot in the ADN program and I did my background and fingerprinting, I am just nervous about it all. Also, JessBane could you tell me what the schedule is like? It didn't say anything about it in the packet they sent out. Well congratulations to everyone who got accepted!

Congratulations! We need more nurses. It is difficult to work, be a parent, and go to nursing school full time. I am sure that it is tempting to go the LPN route, but you will be so much happier if you go ahead and get the RN. It is a tough schedule at any community college in NC as they have a very similar class schedule. Nursing school is made to be more difficult than it has to be but you can do it if you try.

Hi LindsayJune! Congrats on getting in both programs :) I think you should def go with the RN program. I have a friend who worked part time and raised a baby while in the nursing program at Gaston. She said it wasn't easy but that it was doable. Looking forward to orientation in June! Good luck with whatever program you choose!!

HI JessBane! I know this is an old post but I thought I would try and reach out. I recently was accepted into the CRIBN program through Gaston and UNCC. I will start Gaston's 2 year program in the Fall of 2015 and then the last year at UNCC for my BSN. I am currently working as a CNA PT Nights at CMC Main in Neurosurgery ICU at CMC Main. I am single, living at home, no kids. I am wondering if I should work as a CNA while going to school or if I should just focus on school. Any thoughts into the difficulty of the program I would love to hear.

@graceful151........Im sorry, just saw this post, a year later! If you still have this question.......I worked because I had no choice. I had a small child and a house payment and bills. The experience of working as a CNA will help you in school, but as far as working, I would only do the minimum that you have to! Sometimes I wonder how much more I would have trully learned if I had that extra time to study instead of working. Jess
