So I had an interview (along with 499 other people!) on June 24th. This is for a residency program in Portland, OR with Legacy Health. Supposed to hear something about now, the 13th, but so far no e-mail or phone call. Has anyone else heard anything? Anybody on here have an interview there? It was a pretty different format of interviewing. Comments?
Congratulations! I'm really happy for you and I hope you get the job!
I appreciate your posting here, because now I know that I'm probably not going to get the call for the next round, and I can focus on my other options. I had an interview today at the place where I did my community health rotation -- a group of Patient Navigators for Oncology patients. Because I'm passionate about Oncology, and love the big picture stuff, it might be the right place for me. I hate to give up that floor nursing straight out of school though. It's a tough decision.
I doubt that they are done doing call backs for Legacy. My understanding was that they initially interviewed 500 applicants! I imagine they will give you a call or e-mail, one way or the other, so don't give up hope on that. However, that is good news that you have other options! Pediatric Oncology is where I hope to eventually be. This job hunting is getting pretty frustrating though! I had an interview for Lucile Packard Hospital at Stanford. Flew down there, and then did not make it to the third interview level. Oh well. I know God has a plan for me...just wish He would share it sometime soon:-) Good luck!
Well, I haven't accepted any other jobs, so I'll be here if they call. It's a flight for me, since I'm in Colorado now!
I did my peds rotation on an oncology floor in the Denver Children's Hospital. It was a great experience and part of what cemented my passion for oncology, along with my senior practicum, an internship last summer, and my community health rotation with oncology patient navigators (the ones I'm considering working for now!) I think I'm better with adults than I am with children, but I loved the kids more than I expected.
I feel like I have such great experience, and a 4.0 average, I should get a callback, but I may not have done as well in the phone interview as I thought, and let's face it -- there are just a lot of people out there looking for jobs. I'm older too, and I wonder if people think I'll be too decrepit to do a floor nursing job. (Maybe I should put my athletic activities on my resume?? )
Anyway, sorry to babble! Are you excited for the interview? I really hope you do great and get the position! Good luck tomorrow! :)
There are so many of us out there to choose from that I often wonder HOW they choose! I know some of it is the way we present at interviews, but also believe there is a lot of "who you know" going on! That is where networking is so important. Even with that I feel like I am somewhat overlooked. I had good grades too, 3.75, and have awesome recommendations, and pertinent clinical experience. I even went out and took PALS on my own to get certified in hopes of boosting my chances. This economy has it so that many nurses that would normally have retired, not only haven't retired but are taking extra shifts. If Obama care passes (and I am not saying I agree with it the way it is written) then there will be a bigger need for RN's again. Or if the economy turns around. that will help too. We just have to remember to not take things personally I guess. I always wonder if they look past me because I am only 22! LOL! Who knows?? Hang in there. Keep in touch! Let me know if you hear anything and I will let you know about the interview!
How did you feel about the interview?? I really hope it went well. From your posts, you sound like a really positive person -- a great asset to any hospital floor.
I have a couple things percolating here, and I am thinking I might end up staying here in Colorado. I love where I live, so I'm ok with that. The job is not what I had in mind, but in some ways it may be perfect for me.
I felt it was my best interview so far. I really clicked with the interviewers, there were 4 of them. The interview flowed smoothly and there was more questions about me and not all about "Tell us about a situation you encountered in your experience..." That's the good news...the bad news...700 applicants, 500 initial interviews...something like 80 final interviews...and only 1 opening for Peds where I interviewed. So my chances are probably slim. But still, I am hopeful. I had a tour of the hospital and loved it. Now for a two week wait...thanks for your interest. After the interview I know I definitely do want Peds...so I will just keep doing what I can to make it happen. If this doesn't pan out I may be going to Nicaragua on a missions trip for a couple months. It doesn't pay, but it will be great experience to put on applications. Good luck in your endeavors!

Interview scheduled for Tuesday. Also heard back from Lucile Packard Hopsital at Stanford...I didn't move on there. Guess it wasn't meant to be!
