Anyone on this forum going to St. Francis Career College in San Jose to do their LPN/LVN program? I just started 2 weeks ago. I thought it would be cool to see if there's anyone else on this website that's currently attending or has attended the school.

Hi Ginny Weasley, I'm still looking for a LVN school and I have heard about St. Francis before and kinda interest about this school. So can you let me know how long is the program? And how much does this program cost? And do we have to take any pre-req courses at all? Thanks!!

The program is about $32,000 and it is 15 months long. The only pre-requisite courses you have to take are General Psychology and Human Development which you can take either before you start their program, or during the program, but you have to have them both completed by the time you graduate (if I were you, I'd get them out of the way first though).

Well I went to ST francis to take my tests to get in and wanted to know if anyone else will be starting in Aug? I have read so many reviews on different programs and there are always issues with any program but so far I have to say I have had a good experience in the admissions aspect. I have been helped with financial aid and the rep gave me all the info I needed.

I have visited Unitek, Gurnick and Kaplan stockton and I was really upset about the up front money for prereqs scam they are running. 1650-3300 dallors for a prereq class that doesnt neccesarily mean your are in. If you fail you have to pay all over plus why is it not included in the regular tuition as a part of the coursework? So money in hand. I was also upset about the fact that they try to get students to sign up for the Medical Assistant program first to later transition to the VN. Why pay 30,000 for the MA and then 30,000 for the VN then if yoou wanna bridge to RN another 30,000(and I quoting low here). It is all scams to get more money out of you.

So at St Francis it wasnt like that at all so far. Financial aid even suggested places for more funding and set me up quickly. Any of these programs are going to be fast paced and crazy so when I read about the 3-4 chapters a night I wonder why is this unexpected. I took a Anatomy course this summer and it was insane, and we studied hours a day after 6 hours of lec/lab Mon-Frid and not to mention my teacher expected us to come to open labs on sat and sun. This is nursing education guys so you cant blame the schools for expecting you to learn it. You just have to hunker down and study and stay focused. I paid 30,000 for a car I can do it for my education.

These types of programs work for people who cant wait on waitlists for years.

I was getting discouraged at my local CC doing prereqs and listening to people waiting on lists even after prereqs are done. SO now I can look forward to being in a clinical environment soon which will inspire me in my further education goals.

Check out all the programs are right for you and weight the trade off. Waitng years for me when I am already 35 is not attractive to me.

Good luck.
