Anyone who doesn't have a 4.0 get into nursing school?

Published

This is not meant to sound snotty, but it seems like almost everyone here claims to have a 4.0 or a 3.8 on their prereqs. Really? I consider myself a very intelligent person, yet I'll be lucky to get a B- in A&P II. I'm pretty friendly with my classmates and it seems like only maybe 2 or 3 of them will wind up with As. Are these the only people who have hope?

My class average for tests is usually in the 60s. Do I just have a really hard community college/professor? Or are people who are accepted into Nursing school really that much smarter than me? :o

I had less than a 3.0 when I went into nursing school. I was way up on the list of accecpted students because I had so many classes behind me. Not the top person, but close. It just depends on what your school requires for entry.

I didn't have a 4.0 and got in my first try. Don't give up even if your grades aren't "perfect"!

If you are talking about a second degree in nursing, I think a combination of grades, letters of recommendations, & experience matter equally. I would make sure to write a strong essay & play up whatever work experiences you have that make you a good nursing student. I didn't have the best undergrad GPA & was accepted into a 2nd degree program. Good luck & if this is what you want to do then don't give up!

I had a 4.0 before I started nursing school. I dont think anyone is being snotty. I think many like myself are just proud of the work they did because believe me it was the hardest thing I ever did to maintain it. I dont think you have to be super smart to get a 4.0 you just have to put in TONS of hard work and study study study all the time. I mean all the time. To some it does come easy but for the rest of us it takes dedication and the desire to become a nurse. I have two shoeboxes full of flashcards just for A&P I. I took every practice test I could get my hands on and participated in study groups. After you get accepted you only need to pass. My favorite professor always says C's get degrees. Hang in there if you want it bad enough you will get it.

I need serious help. I took the NET test for CCAC at CALU September 5, 2009. Got %79 composite score, so its good. My problem is i LOST it! I tore my house apart and checked all my school stuff and no luck! I called CCAC and they tranferred me to four different people ending with someone at CALU. She emailed me 2 days ago and said she "might" have a copy of it, but havent heard from her yet! Im so afraid i wont be able to apply this January for the Fall 2010..I honestly think i will die if i do not get accepted this year! Help, any help possible.....

Im just really worried that i am gonna miss something, that i can get done now. Please give me any advice you have! I'd greatly appreciate it!!!

Thank YOU

I have an undergraduate GPA of 3.7 and received an A- in Chem 1 and a B in A&P 1. I was accepted to Regis College's graduate entry pathway program under the condition that I receive a B- or better in Stats, A&P 2, Chem 2, and Microbiology. You for sure do not need a 4.0 ungraduate GPA nor do the admission officers expect you to. However, they say that you do need to have a 3.0 GPA. I do not know how flexible they are with that but they do however look at you as a whole package deal. Best of luck to you!

Let me rephrase what I said....in all my nursing pre-req's I got A's....it was classes I took years ago that I got C's in that brought down my QPA but since they weren't nursing or science related they didn't impact my admission in a negative way.

I had a 3.25 and was accepted into a direct entry program. I know for a fact that the grades I received in my science classes had a greater weighted placed on them, than art or gym. I did well (not excellent) in both the English and Math portions on the GRE, so that may have influenced the graduate committee. Plus don't forget to WOW them with your personal statement, mine was 680 words, which I believe made a great impact.
