Hi,
I will be starting in the Fall of 08'.
That's Awesome! Congrats! Where are you from?
I live in Kankakee. Have you gotten your schedule, e-mail account, books, and financial aid squared away?
George:)
No Not yet. You must be the george that has posted on the bulletin board :)
I am originally from Villa Grove but moved to Tolono last year.
I will be moving so I don't have to deal with the high gas prices!
I am taking the Stats class right now at Lakeview, it was my last requirement I needed and decided to take it there b/c Parkland has some stupid Pre=Req of Geometry before taking Stats. I love it with this teacher anyways!
Books I might get from a girl in my class (stats) I am also wanting to get a PDA so thats why I wanted to get them cheaper from a previous student.
Money... Now that's a pain in the butt! My parents are helping me out and I am looking into the scholarship program through Carle Hospital.
I can't get any money from the fafsa thing since I am still legally dependent b/c I am under 24 and neither married w/children... Kinda bites!
What about you?
You can email if you want lwilliams at you know where!
Yes, I am the George on the builletin board. It sounds like I am not the only one sweating over finances. I used most of my FAFSA money already on a 2 year and a 4 year degree already. I am freaking out about how to pay for school now that I have gotten in. I am older(43) and don't have help from parents; your lucky. I heard the first semester is a bear. I don't think it is feasible to work and go to classes. What is the scholarship from the Carle Hospital? Do you have to be an employee? I still need the Chem 115 class which I am taking this summer at Lakeview and a Nutrition class on line. I would love to stay in Danville but, I don't think I can afford it without Financial Aid cash. I may have to limit my commute with gas prices or sleep in my car...lol. Have you spoken with anyone else starting this Fall?
It is a scholarship program that you have to apply for. I think they will pay up to 2,000 a semester for the whole duration of the program. However, you have to sign a contract with them stating you will work for them after graduating. I think it may be anywhere from 2 years on, depending on how much/how long you ask to be on scholarship.
You will really like taking Chem at Lakeview. The teacher is really awesome, I have him right now for Statistics. He's lucky to be living. He is 56 and had a liver transplant last fall. I am sure you will hear the story!!! Truth be told, I wish every class could be with him because he makes it stress free and an easy environment to learn!
I have only really talked with one other person and she is from Seattle, Wa. We are looking at living together starting in August. I have to find a good place first that is safe!
The financing is scary! A girl in my Stats class had a student loan that was close to 12% She was not working and thought she would pay on it after she got out of school. Well they found out that a 30,000 dollar loan with interest if she could not pay in full the 3 months or so of graduating, it doubled to somewhere over 60,000. My parents would never let me act in that way to put myself in DEBT. They are proud of me and of course they are great parents. They both worked through the University but both now are retired. I feel bad though that they are taking care of all this when the money they are making is retirement money. I don't see why the government wouldn't see this as a financial need... But whatever!!
Good luck with it, and hope to see you soon! Once again, CONGRATS!
I heard the Stats and Chem teacher is awesome. I am looking forward to the class. I moved here from Seattle last year. I will have something in common with the other girl coming from Seattle. I wonder how many people are coming from other areas.
That girl in your stats class sounds like she was a victim of predatory lending...ouch!!!!!!!!!
The hospital I worked at in Seattle had a similar program for scholarships as Carle Hospital. Many hospitals will offer tuition assistance as well if you work for a specified amount of time. I will probably have to combine tuition assistance from the military, loans against my 401K, work part time, and try to get a line of credit. I would like to stay out of further debt if I can.
Well, thanks for the insight. I will e-mail you through the Lakeview site from here out.
Congrats to you as well!!!! George:)
