Hey, just wanna know if there are allnurses.com members who graduated from my alma mater. It would be great if we could get in touch. Please indicate which batch you belong.
I belong in batch 2005!
Hi Guys, I'm also from MHCN before.. until 3rd year.. and transferred to pchs :). I think I'm batch 1997 before.. if i wasn't mistaken. It's great that i've finally got my CVS TOR from mrs. Nicolas 2 weeks ago. Now i don't have to go back there anymore. hehehe. And it's great to know that some of my old faculties are still there teaching. Great school with affordable tuition fee :).
hi! im from metropolitan hospital before but i transfered school after my first clinical rotation. you're right, most c.i.'s there are "toxic" and really- they give you a hard time during the whole week you are on duty. also during return demo when they would shout at you like you are some kind of an idiot or something when you commit mistakes...i know its supposed to teach us discipline and to work under pressure but it was too much for me... the yelling and humiliation, it doesn't matter if you are a second courser, for the terror c.i.'s, they treat you like you are stupid or dumb. they are very strict and sometimes it is only one-sided, they don't listen to the student's opinion or suggestions. Im not saying all c.i.'s there are "toxic", just almost all..=) and when i transfered school, i saw the difference. I could also learn in an "untoxic" environment where you can talk openly with your c.i. and ask questions regading your duty without being shouted at. i did learn a lot of things in metropolitan, but you know when you get a grade u feel that is not equivalent of your hardwork, it was time for me to leave..now i am a registered nurse...i passed the june 2007 nle... my point is, what is important is how you put your heart at something and be determined to get it... nobody should make you feel you don't deserve the title...=) you go to school to learn, not be tortured... =)
*this is just my opinion, based on my experience*
Yeah, so true that it's difficult to be a nursing student in Metro. I understand where you're coming from, psychelle. I, myself, sometimes get frustrated at the grades I get. I feel as if I deserve better. But everytime this happens, more often than not I just see this as a challenge -- for me to try harder, to strive better. I appreciate the strict CIs and rules (not all the time, though. heheh) 'cuz I really learn a lot from them. I've had CIs who were too kind or too lax. Don't get me wrong; I appreciate them and I soo loved their kindness. But I've had CIs who are what they call "toxic" (or for me can be more aptly called TOXINS, for the seeming harm that they cause. heheh.). I further classify into two this type of CI. First one is somebody who doesn't want anybody to get high marks or worse, pass! They are the type who doesn't entertain questions from students, are snotty and are disciplinarian "kuno". But I've find out later on, usually towards the end of the rotation that you just have to know their "kiliti" and they get nicer, I tell you. But I still don't like the fact that they aren't open to questions. Probably because they are afraid they won't be able to answer them and they'd look stupid in front of the students. Hence, the "strict" facade they project.
The second type of "toxic" CIs are those that are strict, hadly smile, don't give away grades "that easily" but are very open to students' questions, are humble enough to admit that they don't know what the answer is if they really don't know, and they make sure that the grade you get is the grade that you worked hard for. During our two most recent rotations, Level III-J1 was lucky enough to have had that type of CIs. And for that, I commend Ms. Cindy Sales (6D) and Ms. Rowena Araneta (of 5B and my favorite so far) for being an asset to MHCN. Ma'am Weng, even if you thought I didn't know how to count PRs and CRs accurately [which I STRONGLY begged to disagree -- and it turned out I was right :)]! Congrats to both of you! Hope you keep up the good work.
And to all board-/nclex-takers and fellow students -- the best of luck to us all. See you around in Metro! :)

Hi kmen!!! congrats for passing the NLE 2006. I used to be one of the clinical instructors in MHCN, I handled seniors during their duty. Hmmm, maybe you were one of them? PM me your name if you're interested to know if we know each other.hehe.
I suggest you follow Suzanne4's review program. I used it and it helped me a lot. Search for the program in the NCLEX forum. Good Luck.
