I'm currently an Itawamba Community College student and interested in the Lpn program. Anyone have any incite on there Lpn program? Is it hard to get into?
Anyone? I'm mainly wanting to know if it's hard to get into and act and gpa's of those who did get in. The school website advertises that it's "highly competitive" to get into but when I look at the course catalog for Lpn they still have 5 slots open where as Rn has more than their capacity lol?! Maybe some dropped out or it's not as competitive as they say it is.

I am currently wondering the same. I applied for it and I was wondering when would we know if we would get to interview for a spot or not. How many people do they interview? What is the act of people who usually get in? And what is each semester like? I have been in an lpn program before but was unsuccessful with my check offs in iv
Well I had a meeting with my adviser on Monday and he said it's very competitive to get into the Lpn program. I am still doing my prerequisites and won't be applying until April for the fall 2012 class. Did you apply to the spring 2012 class? I believe they take 30 a class. I have a 17 act and my adviser said I should re-take it so I'd have a better chance at getting in but, I have a really good gpa so he said that is really good as that counts too.
Yes!!! GPA does count. It's good to have both a good GPA and ACT but a high one or another is also good. I think you only need a 16 to get in so you got the score but the advisor is right I have a 20 on my ACT which is still considered low. People are making 24, 25s, and higher and those people will get looked at first so I am currently working toward improvements as well. I have a 3.7 GPA but there are people with better ACT and perfect GPA's so you know where I am going. But what I like about Itawamba is they don't only base it on high scores. they select a number of students to interview for the practical nursing. I have an interview November the 7th got my letter earlier this week!!!! I hope that I can make a good impression and get in. And hopefully since I was previously in an lpn program it will go smooth for me if I can get in.
I don't understand how any slots could be taken when they haven't interviewed yet. Interviews for LPN is november 4 and 7th. But perhaps those are repeating students who already have a slot or people who are already in the course for this semester?!?! I guess NOt really sure.
Thanks for all the info! They have a class that starts in august and another that starts in January the slots I were referring to were for august, I know they usually take 30 and I believe the same in January:). I will be applying for the next august class this spring in March. Good Luck with your interview, let us know how it goes! It sounds like your scores and grades are great. I have a friend who got in the Rn program with a 21 act and only 3.0 gpa so surely you will get in the lpn:)
Oh you better believe I am going to let you all know how it goes and can't wait until it is over. I really pray that I can be able to get in and that they will find me fit. I really want this. I am willing to move to itawamba which is 3 hours and 40 minutes away from me to have it! But I have been taking classes for them thru online blackboard. It is something. I took the skills for success in nursing this past summer and this fall I am doing Gerontology and i love it! Both good nursing classes! GOOD EASY nursing classes nothing like real nursing school expectations but the skills for success prepared me better about how to study and how to think to succeed in nursing school. The online Gerontology is just a class about care for older adults, which has prereqs but the questions they ask on test are in nursing school form so good preparation. I just go there every semester online because it's so far away and always take four classes because online is very time demanding as you know I'm sure. I think I would have even better grades if I was able to take it in the class.
I'm glad to hear the skills for nursing success is a good class because I'm taking that next semester! I also do online thru blackboard even though I only live 15 minutes from the school but, I have 3 little boys and two are still toddlers. I will be going to one class next semester since it's a first aid and cpr class so I can become cpr certified. I have a good gpa and I'm working hard and taking my act again in december to try and get a higher score, so I'm hoping it all comes together and if not I'm just going to keep trying!!
I hope we all can end up being in this program. Itawamba really has a good reputation for teaching good. I heard It's not easy but I have heard all good things bout them. LAst year the president encouraged me to tour the campus and when I did I loved it. ALL the faculty were overly helpful!!!! IT just felt meant!
well i already have an update. I will be calling monday to cancel my november 7th interview. BECAUSE.... I got my acceptance letter today for HINDS RN program for january. I am so shocked. I never thought I would make it in with only a 20 act. Plus they said the waiting list was about 2 years long. And I just applied in July 2011. I am glowing with happiness because now I can stay home instead of moving almost 4 hours away if I would have gotten accepted to ICC. I wish you all the best and I will continue to pray for you. I know the struggle RN was my original dream and has been my dream for about 5 years now!
Congrats:yeah:That is such great news!!!
