Hello all!
I have registered for the Intro Chem Distance learning through Brookhaven and I am ervous about it. I am thinking it could be either a great thing or a big mistake. The lab is through a purchased lab kit and all done at home. It has been 25 years since I have had chem and I have 9 month old twins so I am wondering if anyone has taken this and howbad or good was it?
Any tips to succeed would be awesome.
Also taking Micro on computer except for the lab and dosage and calculations for nurses which only meets 4 times.

Brookhaven has online chemistry classes now? I had no idea. I am a huge advocate of online classes, but that sounds really tough. I am a very independent learner, but when it came to chemistry I needed some direction and in-class help from an instructor.
They have micro online also?? Wow! I guess you would have to go to the lab and just have the lecture online. I would have preferred that.
I took A&P as a "quasi" self pace class - the lecture part was basically done on your own and then you went to class for the lab part. So it was one night a week instead of 2 nights a week and that wasn't bad at all. The first part of the lab class the prof would go over the most important points of the lecture and answer any classes and then the rest would be lab.
But I don't know about Chemistry on-line...

Can you believe it? They have Chem and Micro all online but you have to go to the lab for the micro however, it saves a lot of time and I can do class work on the computer at work too when we aren't busy. I have 9 month old twins so any time I can save the better.

That is how it is with the Micro class, you have to go to the lab twice a week. I didn't see an online A&P class but I will surely look for one in the fall. Thanks for putting that thought in my head. I guess I should see how the chem and micro go first though.

I am currently taking Chemistry online at a local community college (Rio Salado in Phoenix). I combine it with BIO201 and ENG101. So far it's going great. I have high A's in both CHM and ENG and a very high B in BIO. I'm taking all my pre-requisites online because I prefer not to waste time on traffic and commuting. I also enjoy doing everything at my own pace.
The way the class is going for me... the lecture part requires me to take a quiz every week. Every other week this quiz is a written one that has to be sent to your instructor by regular mail. For the lab part I have to perform every lab on my own at home (which is a lot of fun! Although sometimes you have to try something more than once...) and then print out the lab report, add your calculations, and send it via USPS mail again.
I really like sending in my assignments this way. The instructor can correct them and then send them back to me. The feedback in this class is amazing. You can always contact your instructor by e-mail as well. There's also a free online and in-person tutoring service. However, I have never used it.
The only thing I don't really like about online classes is the lack of peer feedback. I don't get to talk to any of my fellow students and I can't compare my progress in class to that of anyone else.
If you are self-motivated and you are driven to do this, online classes are an awesome opportunity! Good luck!!

Hi!!! I took Chemistry online...It was hard but I came out of it with an A...online classes are so much different than traditional sit down classes. You have to be disciplined to take them..also a normal class is around 2 hrs...but online classes you need to DEVOTE a lot more time than that to them. It is better to go ahead and do your work in advance so the deadline will not sneak up on ya!!! This past semester I had 4 online classes...and I took Phlebotomy...it was a lot on my plate but I succeeded. Good Luck!!!!

Thank you so very much. I was really wondering how it would be and you have helped ease my fear. I was also wondering about the lab it I have to purchase. I was kind of afraid that if I did something wrong would it be ruined or would I have the opportunity to do it over. Well, thanks again. I appreciate your feedback and good luck in your studies.
TMCDANIEL,
How is the on-line Chemistry class going?

Does anyone know who or where Micro. is offered online in So. California?
Thank You!
