Anyone else PARANIOD about giving oral presentations??

Published

I just finished my first week of LPN school, it is a relief just to get going and finding out about all the things we will be doing. We got our first presentation assignments and I am absolutley PARANOID and scared to DEATH to give speeches! I have it already written and it sounds really good but I just am so scared about getting up in front of the class to speak!:chair: My voice gets SOOOOOO shaky there is no way of hiding the fact that I'm scared to death! I am thankful though that there are only 26 students in my class but still for me that is like an audience of 100! I flunked out of English in High school because I refused to give oral book reports. I can't do that this time, i want to be a nurse and know that this is one of my fears that I must get over. has anyone else ever been this scared? or am I really that much of a chicken? Anyone have any advice or suggestions that can help me get prepaired for this???? Thanks for any feedback!!

I am just like you....I have major panic attacks. Especially, when I have to give an oral presentation. I have a culture presentation this Friday, and I am not looking forward to it. Like someone suggested above.....pull it from yourself to volunteer to go first, seriously. This helps.....#1 no one is paying attention to you, because they are nervous and going over their own speeches in their minds. #2 So you won't have to torture yourself by sitting there watching everyone else while your stomach cramps up and you scare yourself into hyperventilating and all of that good stuff. I have actually been doing this since the beginning of August(going 1st or 2nd)and it has helped me tremendously:) Godd Luck to you:)

Well, I did it and lived to tell about it!! :chuckle Thanks to ALL of you who replied, it is soooo comforting to know I am not alone! I did volunteer to go first and was glad to get it over with!! Thank goodness my treacher didn't take points off for nervousness (my voice was shaking so hard I'm surprised that anyone could even understand me!!) Out of a total of 50 points I got 50!! Hopefully it WILL get easier as time goes by. (and the class will get smaller too, we have already lost 6 people, that helps me too!!)

Thanks again!!
