I didn't get the worst score but still I know a 79.3 won't cut it. I know I can retake it but don't most schools look at your first score? *sigh* I feel my dream slipping out of my hands. Anyone else upset with their teas test?

Oh yeah. Depressed doesn't even begin to describe it. If people are telling you that "everything is in the manual", they didn't take MY version! I had questions in the science portion referring to specific vitamins and electrolytes. In the manual? - I don't think so! My score was "fine", just like your score and I feel the same way (that it just won't cut it). I studied all summer. I purchased a ton of books. I watched numerous on-line educational videos. I underlined, memorized and I wrote lengthy notes. I'm an excellent student. I have a perfect GPA, but none of that matters. Someone else on this blog mentioned that the manual reads like "VCR instructions". Funny, I SAID EXACTLY THE SAME THING!
Furthermore, my actual exam was riddled with spelling and grammar errors and I had 4 questions that did not have a correct answer to choose from the selection. I'm not kidding. I know this because there is no way I did a subtraction or multiplication problem five times and came up with the CORRECT answer each time, but the correct answer just wasn't a choice. I thought I was going nuts until I checked my answer using a calculator when I got to my car. I felt disgusted and angry when I left the testing center.
All that being said, I will NOT let this test beat my spirit down. I may feel its methodology is convoluted, deliberately ambiguous, and unfair, but I'm taking it again. I have 3 chances. I have my first experience behind me. I have 2 more to go. Only then, upon completing all 3 tests, will I know that I have done my personal best.
Advice:
1) ALL Sciences and MATH can be studied in simple videos at www.kahnacademy.org. These guys can teach ANYTHING! They break each component down into specific subjects.
2) Any and ALL of the "For Dummies" books in various subjects were tremendously helpful
Warning (AND MAJOR GRIPE):
You can't prepare yourself for material that is NOT covered in the manual or in the practice exams.

Part of the teas is to see how you think and to see you basic competency. To expect to relearn high school and some intro college classes off the web is not that realistic. Make sure you are also reviewing test questions so you are familiar with the style of questions. What throws people off a lot is how the questions are asked.

Just a piece of advice for if you decide to take the TEAS: relax a little. Honestly, I'm not a "fly by the seat of my pants" kind of person, but for this test, I had very little time to study due to school related reasons and because I scheduled the test 3 weeks out from test day. The night before the test I started with a practice book which just tested what I know, rather than teach the material. I worked on that, and then I went to bed at around 10 because I think resting is important before a test. I said a good prayer the morning of and just told myself to breathe, rely on the knowledge I have, and focus. I was shocked to find that I scored in the 95 percentile. Again, the moral of the story is to relax. You have worked so hard to get to this point, and you have surely learned so, so much. Believe in yourself, take a deep breath, and trust yourself this time even though you didn't don as well the first time.
Also, we all know that the science is the hardest part. They're gonna throw those questions that you will just not remember the answer to (and yes, I think my math exam may have had one or to without a correct answer choice so I just picked what I figured was the best one) so do your best on those. To make up for the tough ones that you already know will be on the science, have you practiced your reading comprehension/ grammar? Personally I feel that these sections have boosted my scores on various tests over the years. You are scored on these tests too, so know these also. If you do well on these, they can bring up your overall score. Best wishes to you on your next try!
