Anyone done the RN to BSN program at UTK?

U.S.A. Tennessee

I am considering applying to the RN to BSN program at The University Of Tennessee Knoxville this coming fall. Just wondering if anyone had been through it and what it is like?

Thanks!

Hello,

I am currently enrolled in UTK RN-BSN program and I am not pleased, in fact I'm down right angry.

I started with an ASN ('97 LMU) and was told by advisor (a PhD professor) I would not need any further pre-req's and after 3 semesters there I was informed I will need 18 more hours of gen ed courses (fun stuff like art history and western civ) in addition to my nursing classes, they now have centralized advising as opposed to faculty because this has been a problem. The online aspect has been really frustrating- my husband has joked I should minor in IT due to all of the difficulty with posting assignments and discussion boards. Tuition looks affordable but they add all these fees. I am taking one class this semester and it's $2995 ($1800 tuition, $500 course fee, $250 distance learning fee, $200 rn to bsn fee, $200 College of nursing fee...etc.) Fall semester I took 11 hrs and it was $5800 (not including books)

If you have an ASN from a RODP institution no further pre-req's are needed-if you look at the general information it looks like you can finish in 3 semesters but if you read further down you see the "some gen ed classes may be needed" mind you in college I've already had 12 hours of foreign language but they are not counting that because I didn't do a sequence, I have already had US history but now I need 3 more hrs, had college algebra (at UT) but that doesn't count have to take 6 hrs of math (I figured I'd need statistics but not another 3hrs of math)

Sorry to go on and on but I will say some people seem happy there. My new advisor apologized and said she knew I must be upset but they are fixing some of these problems, unfortunately I'm stuck right now so either I suck it up and take these additional 18hrs or I transfer and lose some of my upper level nursing course credit at a new school.

Hope this helps

i think its best to see what is required for bsn prereqs first and then apply it to the ASN program of your choice so when you apply for RN to BSN it will already be done
