Last year, I wanted to get it done but I had things come up. So getting my certification was put aside. Now I want to study myself with the video lessons here and a few books I just pick up. My goal is to get my license by Sept this year when my daughter turns 1 and my son is kindergarten.

I went to school when I graduated at high school for CNA but soon after I decided that I didnt want to do that at the moment. I have knowlodge of what to do mostly so this shouldn't be so hard since I was pretty much A student and took lots of notes (which I still have, I have to say).

So anyone here thinking of challenging the test and want to join me to discuss things together! :)

i did challege the cna exam i am a lpn that had not worked in 20+ years and felt that this was my best way to get back in nursing feild and gain some clinical practice until i could reactivate my license . i did however take a skills course because from what i read you neede to preform the tasks in a specific order in order to please the tester. the class i took was not very expensive and i believe it really helped me. well i have since been able to reactivate my license in new york applied for a license in fl through endorsement and now am proud to say finally got a job as a LPN. good luck with your endeavour

Yes Lorettap is right Order to order STEP BY STEP

Im in the Course now and almost ready for my State exam. An RN came into our class to teach us some of our skills and she was actually one of the testers for FL State. She couldnt stress enough about SAFTEY, PRIVACY, INFECTION CONTROL.

You must knock before entering and introduce yourself name and title and then wash hands put on gloves and the check ID BEFORE DOING ANY PROCEDURE. Have good body mechanics, like lifting the bed to your height first and moving the bed rail down before starting your procedure. (make sure the other rail is up.)

YOU MUST NEVER leave the pt without call bell in reach and taking off your gloves and washing your hands after you leave to go do another skill!

She also advised us to have good communication throuhout the whole procedure. At some testing sites they may not have curtains for privacy and water etc. But you have to talk your way through it. Like if they dont have water when your giving a partial bath, pretend to fill bucket with water and test with your elbow. If they dont have bedrails, you must pretend that they do.etc..which makes it harder-whats out of sight is out of mind sometimes! You will have 4 skills and they choose from 20.

GOODLUCK!

Challenging is a great way to go when you already have some knowledge and experience behind you. It is wise however to take some kind of skills class or refresher to make sure you know exactly what the evaluators are looking for. Also, depending on how long ago you took your class, some things may have changed....for instance, back in the day, we always left the pt. with siderails up, now you can not do that without dr.'s orders, because it is considered a restraint. Send me an email if you are in NC, I can give you a referral.
