Anyone attending Good Samaritan in Cincincinnati?

Hi Cincymom,

I am a new RN that works at Good Sam hospital. I didn't graduate from this school but I can tell you some things about it. I am impressed at how they train their students. I know its a 2 year associate degree program and they have summers off. They professors are very competent and they prepare their students well for the NCLEX. I think you'll do very well.

Thanks for the reply! I'm very anxious to get started at Good Sam. I just got my acceptance letter this month -- and am told they can't yet tell me when I'll begin classes -- probably January or August 05.

Do you mind if I ask which in area you are working? Is this your first position since school? Did you get to choose which area you wanted?

Hi Cincymom,

Yes this is the first position for me, I work in Renal/Dialysis/Urology. Its one of the medsurg floors that has a speciality. They don't typically place new grads in L&D or Nicu but I know they take exceptions. I wanted a strong background in Medsurg before I went anywhere else. My goal is to work in hospice within the next few years. Overall Good Sam has been a wonderful place to start! I wish you the same experience.

Perhaps working as a CNA would benefit you.

I think i will be getting in January 05'!! I haven't heard much about it, but the things i have heard have been good! Does anyone know what the starting pay is around here for new grads, and what shift differential is? thanks

I wanted to say hi to nurses in the NICU, I am a mom to a former 23 week preemie born at Good Sam in Cincy... she was cared for in the most wonderful way and transferred to children's at 4 1/2 months of age for a tracheostomy, she had bilateral grade 4 bleeds w/o any swelling, no need for a shunt, she has recovered from the bleed 100% no signs, no damage, doing awsome. She recently went through reconstruction of her airways and had her trach removed over at Children's and is doing awsome, she is walking, talking (kind of) and a true miracle. I give much thanks to all the nurses caring for her at Good Sam, if it weren't for you all, she wouldn't be here special thanks to Kathy and Tammy ( you know who baby Alexandra Workman is ) I wanted to share with you my thanks and if you could help other parents I and a good 42 of my friends have created a website and support forum for moms of preemies, I know maybe this is the wrong place to do this? but I only hope to inspire other moms and help them through the support of other preemie moms going through and graduates of the NICU experience. http://prematurebaby.bravehost.com it has a forum and yahoo chat group as well.
