My Dad is in CVICU...need help!!
Ok..for all of you CVICU nurses i need your oppinions...im a fairly new med/surg RN and I need your expertise on my dad's case......He is 59 yrs old and had open heart surgery (5 bypasses) 3 weeks ago...when they took him of the vent the next day he coded...they put the vent back in for a week, took it off and had to put it back in again...he had double pnuemonia and "lung damage" per the doc's that is making him require too much oxygen....he now has a trach and is still on the vent...he developed a blood clot in each leg like 2-3 days after surgery which they say is very unusual to develope that soon...they gave him heparin and he started bleeding internally around his kidney...they say he is not a surgery candidate at this point...the bleeding tho has stabilized for now....he has diverticulosis, he is carrying almost 60lbs of extra fluid of him, his kidney's were in failure but are starting to come around again, today they told us he has developed a blood clot in his lung and they cant do anything about it...no heparin b/c of the internal bleed and no filter b/c it's already in the lung..... Im losing it...they say he may not make it...they say they have never seen someone so young have so many complications...mind you he was not sick b/f this at all...his lung damage they say is from smoking for 20 yrs in his younger days, tho he hasn't smoked for like 25 yrs, and he was in a fire several yrs ago....Im soooo lost.. i try to pieces together but i can't and im sure im still missing some peices... I'm just wondering if anyone has advice or suggestions....you can be totally honest w/ me...i can take it....anything will be helpful.... thanks so much and sorry for the book...

Question for Good Samaritan Students
hey there!! i am starting nur 300 at good sam. i really like the college and the professors, they are tough but you learn alot from them. my first semester was a big shock, and it was hard, but you just have to take it one day at time. good sam grads are well prepared and have an outstanding reputation!! just keep that in mind. i can't tell you much about a&p b/c i didn't take it there. i have heard that it is difficult, but i don't anyone who didn't pass. chemistry was not so bad for me. i don't like that stuff but the professor is awesome!! he is so funny and really wants you to learn, and will do everything in his power to make that happen and meet your needs. just talk to him, get to him, and make sure he knows you are trying:) clinicals, like i said are difficult. there is alot of preparing, paperwork, writing...etc and takes up a lot of time. the instructors expect preparedness! know your meds!! at least the one's that i have had are like this. in the end they really want you to learn and be great knowledgable nurses. i think if you speak to a new grad from good sam, they will tell that this school has prepared them pretty well for the real world:) so, with that said you just have to take it one step at time and don't get discouraged if you have a bad day or test b/c it happens to all of us. good luck !!!!!! and happy semester

Online BSN/MSN in nursing programs? Are these really legit?
I am just curious b/c once I graduate w/ my ADN I will be living about an hour and 20 min from the closest college that offers BSN and MSN programs in nursing, so it would be more convenient to this online but is it legit and how does it work? I certainly would not want to do this unless it was worth it and a qualifed program, so please tell me all you know about this. Thanks Emilee:)

Good Samaritan vs. University of Cincinnati
I just finished my first set of clinicals at good sam and so far so good:) I really like the instructers and people there. The program is difficult but I just take it one day at time and go on b/c I know it will be worth in the end. There is alot of clinical time which is good but good sam is expensive and the parking stinks! Other than that I really like it. I was on the waiting list for 1 year I got in this past January and they did not tell me I was in until like 3 weeks before clinicals started! So I would hang in there I don't think it is a question of being accepted either it is just the wait, but the school is good.
