I have a questions for anyone that has attended columbia. Or if anyone knows the answer. Is it true that columbia will not allow someone with a ged to attend there school. Do you have to be a high school graduate. Doesn't grades gpa test scores licenses and whatever else the requirements to get in what matters. Please someone tell me that it is not true. That someone with a ged can attend the school.

My advice would be to contact the University and speak to someone in Admissions. They would be able to answer your question.

If you want to apply for the school of nursing at columbia, then you have to already have a bachelors in something else, take the gre, etc. i don't think they care about high school stuff.

Bingo.

Columbia does NOT have an undergraduate nursing program. They have a ETP (entry to practice) program for people with a science-related bachelors degree. You end up with a MSN when you're done. You can also do a traditional MSN, PhD or DNP degree there.... but no undergrad.

So all they care about is your GRE score, and a pocketful of $$;)

Here's a quote from their site:

http://cpmcnet.columbia.edu/dept/nursing/admissions/etp.html

"The Combined BS/MS Program (ETP) is designed to prepare students for a career as a professional advanced practice nurse.

Admission requirements include:

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

* The following undergraduates courses:

o English Composition, 3 credits

o Life Sciences, human anatomy, human physiology, microbiology;

+ for the Nurse Anesthesia specialty: two semesters of chemistry (at least one organic course) and one semester of physics)

o Psychology (intro, life span or developmental psychology)

o Humanities

o Statistics

o Social/Behavioral Sciences

* Satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

* Three references attesting to applicant's academic ability and potential

* Personal goal statement that is congruent with program goals (two pages, double-spaced, 12 pt. font)

* Resume or Curriculum Vitae"

To clarify on SteveRN21's post, you don't need a science related degree, any BA, BS, BBA, etc will do.

Thank you for the info. Well I am planning to attend csi, first get my aas then go for my Bachelors and hopefully attend columbia to get my masters to become a crna. But I don't know how hard and long this road will be. I was just wondering because my hubby said you will never get into columbia with a ged. And I said under the requirements to get in it says nothing about that. If it was important it will be listed under the requirements I think. Hopefully I can accomplish my goals.

I went to Columbia, and it doesn't have an undergraduate school of nursing. Their program is call the ETP (entry to practice program) and then the MSN to become an NP. In order to be admitted you need to have a previous BS or BA, prereq. of course and need to take the GRE.

Work hard and you can definitely accomplish your goals. Columbia is my first choice when I decide to go back to school and pursue becoming a Neonatal NP. Good luck!
