Starting a feed to see if anyone has applied to Western Carolina University for FNP starting Fall 2017
Hi guys, I searched this on the allnurses website for WCU. I applied for the FNP program for 2017 for WCU. I got declined 2 weeks ago, but then last week got an email saying they were "expanding their interview pool"...i couldn't make it in person for the interview so they did a skype interview with me, and 1 business day later they told me I got accepted. I'm not sure what made them change their mind!
FYI everyone who wasn't admitted this year. I emailed asking for feedback and was told that because of the high number of applications received, individual feedback would not be provided. They did say that the 2 most common areas that need to be worked on are the personal statement and making sure that you secure good references.
RuralNurseRN, Yes, I spent months upon months on my statement of purpose. I think it was very solid and really defined my life and nursing mission over the coorifice of my life, including what I have seen/done overseas in 3rd world countries. I also have very solid and great references. I think by the time they let me do the interview, I had already been accepted (since there were so many technical difficulties during the skype interview). I still dont know what made them send me a declination letter but then 2 weeks later, they interviewed me and accepted me! I ended up turning down Simmons college (even after paying a $700 deposit) just because WCU has been my first choice. I really love that you go to classes every week in person. Did you apply anywhere else? I applied to 6 or 7 different schools overall.
WCU was my first choice. I also applied to Walden because Dr Vincent Hall (who was over the BSN program at WCU when I was in undergrad) is now the director of the Walden MSN programs. I have been accepted there and start classes in August. But I really like the idea of going to class every week too.

Do you know what their background is? I just don't understand. I've been a nurse almost 15 years and have a 4.0 GPA. And I'm am alumni. I'm just really disappointed I guess. I wish they would have given more than a generic sorry you didn't make it email.
