Anyone applied to the University of Florida's accelerated BSN for summer 2009?

I applied to the University of Florida's accelerated BSN program for summer 2009 and am anxiously awaiting a reply. I know it has only been a week or so since the application deadline passed, but I am going crazy waiting to find out if I got in. Is anyone in the same situation as me? Does anyone know when I should expect to hear a reply, and, if so, how do they let us know (e-mail, regular mail)? Ahhhh, I just want to know now!

I'm applying to the program at the end of 2009. I really hope that you get in, from what I have heard from their admissions officer that the class is around 54 students. I've taken the GRE once and didn't do so well so i'm scared that will mess up my application. I"m anxious for you because I rarely here anyone talk about UF on this board. You may get more results in the Florida section. Good Luck:yeah:

Thanks for your information. 54 students sounds like a small group - now I'm even more nervous! The first time I took the GRE, I didn't do well either. I took it 2 more times and improved, so don't give up! Nonetheless, the GRE is the downfall of my application, so I am scared that it may hurt me as well. I posted a thread in the Florida section like you suggested, so we'll see if we get more hits. Good luck to you also!

Hi there, I have also applied to UF's accelerated BSN program for 2009, and am a total stress ball waiting for a decision. I was told they send out decisions at the end of february or early March. I am so interested in what the stats are for this years applicants. Have you heard anything about what the usual GRE or GPA is? I feel like my GRE is OK, but I just dont know what to compare it with, however my GPA is kind of struggling because of stupidity in early undergraduate, but again i just wish I knew what was typical. So if you could shed any light on that, that would be awesome. Also, if you are into it I wouldnt mind swapping stats just to compare ours. Where did you go to undergrad? what major? healthcare experience? sorry to grill you, I just feel like there are so few resources to find info on the programs candidates. let me know if you have any questions for me, I am an open book...don't mind sharing...

I also feel that there is very little information on the program's applicants. I have no idea where my stats fall in regards to other applicants. Sometimes I feel that I have a good chance of getting into the program, yet there are other times that I feel less than average. I struggled with the GRE. I took it three times, and my best score was a 650 in the analytical section, a 520 in the verbal, and a 4.5 in the writing. My GPA from college is a 3.65, and I got a 4.0 in the prerequisite courses. My bachelors is in Biology. I also have worked as a veterinary technician for the past 4 years.

I know I read a post on this website from a few years ago that someone who got into the program with GRE scores just above 500 in each section and a GPA above a 3.5 (can't remember exactly what it said). I figured that if this person could get in, then I should get in too...right? I haven't found much more info other than that.

I also am curious to know how large the applicant pool is. An earlier post said that 54 students get into the program. I wonder how many that is out of. Then I wonder how the current status of the economy is affecting the applicant pool. Are more people applying to the program with hopes of finding stable jobs? Or, are a lot of people not applying for fear of not being able to pay for school? I get myself thinking about all these things, and then I can't stop. And then I turn into a stressball too! :)

I am so happy you responded! I have been checking back like a maniac to see. This waiting game turns us all into crazies. Anyways...well it's interesting because I got a 660 for math, a 510 for verbal and writing 4.5, so we got the exact same GRE score. I am the same way, sometimes I feel like that is a good score and a lot of people struggle just to get above a 1000, however other times I feel like maybe there are a bunch of 12 and 13 hundreds. I only took it once, but I studied like a mad woman and was making almost 1300 on my practice tests, so I was really disappointed with my final score, but I decided not to take it again unless I dont get in. I have a 3.44 undergrad GPA, which is definitely the downfall of my application. I was a total screw up the first year or so of college, but I have good grades for my last two years and A's in all my pre reqs, except chemistry I got a B (which sucks). I graduated from UF (BA in History) in 2005 and worked as a waitress for a year. I have been working as a bookeeper/office manager for the last few years. I dont really have any health care experience, which is another downfall, but when I went to speak with Ken Foote he said that should not matter too much. I just started volunteering at Shands in the PICU, and I sent them an "update letter" right before the deadline to let them know that. So that is my story...I'd say we are pretty similar, but you've definitely got a little edge on me. Lets just hope there aren't a bunch of 4.0 and 1300 applicants. I remember reading somewhere a while ago and not sure where but I feel like it was a legitamate source that there are around 250 applicants and 50 or so accepted, i think maybe that came from ken foote actually, but I cant really remember. I've stressed about the economy too, especially with school budget cuts maybe they are not accepting as many people, but the good news is there is some VA contribution thing I read about that is providing money for 10 extra spaces. I read that on the UF nursing website a while ago, so hopefully the downward economy hasn't changed that. Hopefully the fact that we are the only 2 people on this site means there arent that many applicants HA! Oh BTW where did you go to undergrad? do you live in Gainesville? did you apply anywhere else? I didnt, so all my eggs are in this basket. anyways... glad to finally chat with someone else in the same boat; my head has been spinning lately thinking about it way too much as you can tell from the book I have written you here. If you have any questions for me don't hesitate...

I my gosh! I feel like we've both read all the same stuff and have the same knowledge about the program/applicants. I also thought the applicant pool was some where between 200-250, but I have no idea where I got this info. I also read the article about the VA partnership and the 10 extra spots. I don't think there is any more information out there that we don't already know. Which is sad, because I want to know more!

I am from Wisconsin, so my undergrad was done up there. I do live in Gainesville now, and I also only applied to this program. I have no idea what I'll do if I don't get it. Is it bad that I run home after work to check the mail even though I know that a reply will realistically not be here for a few weeks? Ugh, I can't stand it anymore!

Yeah I have read everything I think there possibly is on the internet, and I have no idea what is true or BS. I'm sure we have all the same sources. I did just find someone on here who graduated from the program I think a year or two ago. she was giving advice to someone else who is planning to apply next year. But she said she got a 1320 on her GRE :( Which scares me a lot, I wrote her and asked if she thought that was typical or if she was above the mean but haven't heard back. I don't know... it's all up in the air, and I need to give it a rest or I am gonna go nuts. I havent't started checking the mail yet, but it is laughable how often I get on this website lately. Good luck to you, and Ill let you know if I hear anything important.

Hey all-I just created a facebook group for this summer's class, if anyone is interested. The group is called

UF Accelerated Nursing Students- Class of 2010

Hi Everyone!

I'm planning on applying to the UF Accelerated BSN program next January and wanted to get some advice on GRE study guides, pre recs and any other advice you think I would benefit from.

I graduated from Tufts University in '08 with a BFA with a 3.4 GPA. I'm currently living in New York City, but moving back home to FL in March to start the pre rec courses for the program at the local community college.

Any advice would be great! Anything you felt especially hard in the application process? Did you have an interview with Mr. Foote before you applied? I emailed him a few weeks ago about my interests and questions but didn't get a reply.

I wish you two all the best of luck and look forward to hearing from you and learning from your progress in this field.

Thanks so much!:)
