Anyone accepted to Roxborough Memorial SON?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hello, I recently found out that I was accepted for August 1 start. :heartbeat Is there anyone else out there? I think I am 95% sure that i will be attending but this is the only school I heard back from so far. Just wanted to talk with some of you to piece some of the info together! :lol2:

Yes I did work through school as a home health aide. I worked mostly weekends and occasionally during the week. I'm glad you're excited! Its definitely something to be excited about. You'll become less nervous as the time goes on trust me lol

We are back on a break from school until July 26...I am so fortunate that I was able to attend the A&P review class last week..Professor Blake is soo awesome, she really knows her stuff....Some may not have attended bc they may have thgt it was another a&p course, but it wAsnt...it was a&p as it relates to hands on various clinical nursing scenarios that one would encounter working with a patient...the information, tips and hints were priceless...I am so glad I was able to attend....

lol that makes me laugh. First of all if you have a job especially in the nursing field already DO NOT QUIT. They want you to work, but you do need your time to study. If you already hold a job like a CNA keep it, because its your foot in the door somewhere! Last year they did get a 100% pass rate. Within my first two semesters there we lost a lot of people who chose on their on to withdraw from the program because it wasn't want they wanted to do. To be honest I read the chapters for the first semester of my first year and that was it. I only read from the textbook if I didn't understand a topic. The lectures are clear and precise and they have test reviews before the test where you are welcome to clear up any topics and they will answer your questions. Most of the instructors will TELL YOU what to HIGHLIGHT in the lecture! Most of the tests are on signs and symptoms of a disease process (when you get into 103) and nursing interventions (what are you going to do first). Some information is pulled from different text books but it is all in your lectures. Whatever they take from that book that you were not required to have they are required to put it in the lecture. lol and about the respiratory and cardiac thing.... They are separate lectures and tests. My best advice to you is to go in with no judgements regarding bad things people will say. My mom has been a nurse for 30+ years and was suprised by the amount of information and how well they were preparing us. If this is your goal, you're flexible in your schedule, and you want to be a nurse.......YOU'LL DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't know how happy I am to see another former student on here!! I kinda had a feeling the experiences that the other former student had could not have been the same or similar for the rest of the students....thank you so much for sharing your side....We want to hear more!!! Also, good luck on your Nclex exam!!

i went for my teas exam today and right after i sat down with pattie and i got ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i couldnt be happier, now i have to hurry and tr to get my paper work printed from online and send everything in. is that we all have to do for august besides uniform? has anyone ordered the uniform yet?

Hey Jpk!! Did you attend last week? I wasn't too sure if I introduced myself to you or not....

i did attend the a&p review and i also have to agree nurse betty it was definetly more than just a review professor blake is great, im not to sure if we meet at orientation but if i didnt i am ecited to c u in july! enjoy our last few weeks off

Hey you guys. I have a friend who is an LPN and she is starting an RN program on the 18th she is looking for a Roommate. She lives in East Norriton which right off of Ridge Pk so it's not far from the school. She rents a condo and she is even open to moving so if anyone still needs a place and a roommate let me know!

What was it that the previous poster experienced? I take the NCLEX July 8th, and I definitely feel prepared. Your second year you will be taking ATI tests which are just standardized tests relating to nursing material. The important one is the ATI comprehensive test at the very end. I passed the comprehensive test but a lot of my peers had problems with the test, I suggest studying from the ATI comprehensive book they will give you for that particular test. If you do not pass the comprehensive ATI you must take a virtual ATI course which is all online and takes about 2 weeks to complete. They also offer Kaplan courses, this year they were offered at Roxborough which starts right after graduation. You have a lonnnnnnnng way to go but just giving you a heads up!

Hey! ROXSONRN2011, How'd you do on the NCLEX if I may ask? Good I hope!

Half way thru the first semester and so far I'm loving it!!!! Its been intense, but DOABLE...Just have to really spend time studying and staying on top of clinicals....2 tests down, 2 more to go then we're moving right into 102.....19 months to go....

I also just graduated from Rox in May. It really is a great program and they prepare you very well for NCLEX. Good luck to everyone! It's gonna be a long 21 months =)

Maria Nicole,

How did you like it? Was it rough? N102 just started for us. What was the hardest course for you? We are all very anxious to know:bugeyes::bugeyes:

It was definitely rough. You have no social life whatsoever. You may have some kind of life now, but once you get to second year.. its basically gone until graduation. 101 & 102 are the easiest. In first year, 103 is the hardest. You start all the patho on all of the disease, and so much more is expected of you. You get more information and the information is way more difficult than anything in fundamentals. If i remember correctly its the intro to cardiac and respiratory stuff, which is continued in a lot more detail in 202. Clinical starts every week instead of every other, and you do a lot more paperwork with a lot more medications. If you make it through 103, 104 is a little easier because its 5 weeks of med surg and 5 weeks of psych. Psych is kind of a breather for everyone but you still have to study, and the medsurg content isnt really too hard. 104 is just like 103, but 103 is so much different than the first 2 terms which is what makes it so difficult, its a huge adjustment. Second year is ridiculous. I remember my first day of 201 with *****. Her lectures are HUGE. you are literally in class basically every single day all day. Most days go until 2 or 3 oclock, sometimes longer. Every term of second year is difficult because more is expected of you. ***gives a lot of content, but she is very helpful and tells you mostly what you need to know. They say 202 is the hardest, but I didn't find one to be easier than the other. 202 definitely isn't easy though. It's a lot of cardiac and a lot of respiratory and you have to remember all of the meds taught to you from 103. Clinical does get more fun though because you learn to do more.

Thanks MarisNicole for the heads-up!!

Wow!...it all sounds so terrifying!........Im just so glad i made it to 102....we're learning medication administration/injections and stuff now which has me freakin out so I cant even imagine how its gonna be second year....Congratulations to you girl!! Cause you made it thru!.....Did you have *****as a clinical instructor?
