I'm not sure about a freeze but I did notice that a lot of hospitals are only hiring mostly part-time. My concern is if they take new out of school nurses.
I am scared of that as well. Part time is ok (you can pick up shifts) and I am told you get paid more if you work more than what you are supposed to. I also heard that in your preceptorship allot of people get offered a job...I just hope I do not go through school and not find work..ugh!

Yes, there are hiring freezes at several hospitals in SE lower MI, but also keep in mind that we are currently in the "slow" season, when pt. censuses are down, so staffing has to follow to remain within budget. Providence Novi still has openings and the St. Jospeh Mercy system (SJ-Ann Arbor, SJ-Livingston, SJ-Saline, and St. Mary Mercy Livonia) is conducting phone interviews the end of this month for all interested nurses. What many people complain about, especially after graduation, is that they can't find work... in the exact hospital or unit they DESPERATELY want for their first job. You will almost certainly need to keep your mind open about where you work, both location and unit. Take a deep breath, you are (or are going to be) an RN, there will be a job for you somewhere.

Yes, there are hiring freezes all over Michigan. East AND West Michigan. Like another poster stated, keep your options open because you may not get what you want at first. Good luck to you!

Exactly. You may need to think outside the box quite a bit.
ie: Long term care, ambulatory clinics, physician offices, etc.
I'm in the same boat.
Good Luck,
Diane
I can handle not getting the my dream job, however what I can not do is drive over an hour one way to work. I live in Shelby Township and the hospitals around here are...troy beaumont, st. joes macomb, crittiten and that is about it.
I just would hate if I go through this very stressful program to find myself without work still. I am gonna hope that I can find something at least in one of those hospitals...UGH!
