Easy answer to all of these questions, if you can afford to pay for the exams yourself, do not use an agency. Simple as that. There have been more problems with agencies recruiting in the UK for some reason. And I am not sure why this is, since all of you are fluent in English. Doesn't make any snese to me, plus your waiting time will about double.
Best suggestion, do it on your own, and select the state and hospital that you want to work at. Much better that way.....

hi, i am wondering how hard it is to get a job in the U.S from England without going through an agency. Does anyone have experience of this??? this was mentioned in an earlier thread and it has set my mind going...:uhoh21: :uhoh21:
It is extremely easy and the recommended way for you to come over here. You can get a much better selection of city, state, and hospital by doing it on your own. Why pay the commission to the agency if you have done the work already on your own.
If you graduated in the UK, make sure that your curriculum is accepted, then all you need is the NCLEX which will be offered in London, and your English exams are waived. You will also need to complete the Visa Screen Certificate application which is available thru CGFNS.
Good luck................ :balloons:

Applying for a job as a nurse in a hospital in the US without any contacts (eg. agency) there is easier said than done. I know there are a lot of legalities involve and I doubt that the hospital would right away petition a nurse without someone backing her/him up.
Personally, I would very much like to apply on my own but, how would I do it? Any suggestions?
Thanks....

I would expect you would contact a hospital in the area you want to work. Be aware that there is a big waiting list with the BON in CA to work there. I do not beleive that there is a problem with a hospital petitioning you. They will have lawyers that will ensure all paperwork is done by you before putting it in. You will have to deal with CGFNS either for CGFNS exam or CES (dependant on BON) and you will definately need visa screen from them for your interview at the embassy. I have been fortunate to team up with a recruiter who fully explained everything and stressed that I would not pay her anything.,but would have been happy doing it myself
If a recruiter is placing you at a hospital, then they are getting paid by someone. They are not doing it for free.
More money can be going into your pocket, then if you go thru a recruiter.
Plain and simple.......... :)
