Anybody that is in the tcc nursing program

Published

Hi there,

I have a quick question for anybody who has taken the math diagonstic test for TCC's nursing program. What is the math test dealing with in math? Like decmials, percentages, what? This is all I have left to do before I apply to the nursing program in Sept. and just wanted to know what to expect. Thank in advance for any advise.

The test is fractions, decimals, ratios, measurements, there were a few word problems with distances and speed. You have to get a 90 in all four areas of the test. No calculator. Good Luck! I took it in March.

If you don't get the 90s, don't worry--you just have to take the MTH 1 class they offer. It's a one credit class...in fact, if you want, you can go ahead and take MTH 1 as soon as you get your results back (and they're less than 90, of course). That would save you time.

Not passing the diagnostic test won't affect your application to the program at all--in fact, very few people clear the nursing math test. In my class I was the only one who did. But if you don't pass you will need the MTH 1 class.

So do your best but don't stress over it--it's not a deal-breaker for your application :)

Meriwhen is right,

The math diagnostic test is not fun, I didn't pass it, and I'm really good at math, but it's lots of word problems, and other strangely worded questions that were basic math, but hard all the same. Lots of people in my class didn't pass it, and we are all pretty smart. Just take it in the summer before you start, or whenever you can. It's once a week for like 8 weeks, and you don't have to retake the test if you pass the class.

Good luck, Amy

Thanks for the feeback, I just wanted to know somethings to try and review before I take the test.

If you fail the math diagnostic test but you have passed the college algebra 158, do you still have to take math 01?

Unfortunately, there is no substitute for MTH 1--so if you fail the diagnostic test you have to take it. They will not accept other math classes in lieu.
