Hi Everybody,
Is Anybody starting Fall quarter at Bates? I am so excited! And I know there is a ton of stuff I will need to do following orientation. Anybody else going to orientation in August?
Yes I'm getting there, one step at a time. I took the CASAS, I did well on reading but did not score well on math. So I have to do support class. I already did TEAS at another school and scored proficient on that. But still need critical thinking test.
The only experience I have with financial aid is I filled out my FAFSA online and had to come in to fill out a data sheet. They said they will send me a letter notifying of any award. They haven't ask for any other paperwork. I doubt I get any pell grants because my income with my husband is too high.
I lucked out and scored well enough on the CASAS, I think my math was close though. So if we have taken the TEAS already we don't have to again? That would be good news I didn't want to take it again. Same situation for me, the wife makes too much and even though we aren't allowed to work much while in the program I didn't qualify for anything other than enough loans to cover tuition.
Yes, since we already took TEAS, we just need to bring in the score from the exam. However, we would still need to do the critical thinking portion of the exam.
I will work only 8 hours per week while in the nursing program. I work for an agency as a per diem nurse assistant so I can pick and choose my days. I work in an assisted living and mental health facility.
I talked to Julia about the Teas V and she recommended we just retake it since we technically pay for it. So I took that and the comprehension test on Tuesday, it wasn't too bad. I have everything out of the way now aside from buying all the books and supplies before class starts! I will most likely have to work 2 shifts most weeks, more if I can.. Damn bills..
Hi Vakarian8811,
I got good news this week, I was accepted to Tacoma Community College RN program! So I am jumping over to TCC! All this work for Bates and here I am switching over. Well a lot of it I can use at TCC. Well best wishes at Bates and much success with juggling college and work. I am sure I will still see you here at allnurses.
I know these bills just never go away.

Sounds like you're almost done. The appointment went well, just turned in all the copies and got the book/item list. I actually took the CASAS right before meeting with the technician and it wasn't too bad. I have the TEAS and whatever other test this coming Tuesday and the appointment with the advisor on Monday. So many steps! Have you had to deal with the financial aid office at all?
