Any u.s. Adn graduate licensed in manitoba now?

Published

Im planning to apply to CRNM.

If you're an U.S. ADN Graduate with a current registration in Manitoba, I was hoping if you can share the ff information:

Did you have to go through a Clinical Competence Assessment?

Did you have to take supplemental education (bridging course)?

Did you have any work experience prior to your application for licensure at Manitoba?

I would appreciate a reply. Thanks! :nurse:

This is not a topic that most Canadian nurses know anything about. As per the banner at the top of the home page for this forum, this thread will be moved to the International forum.

In response to your questions, yes, there is a clinical competence assessment, but it's not likely to apply to a US grad since the documentation should be more than adequate to describe both your curriculum and clinical experience as a student and there are a lot of similarities between educational programming. I have not heard of a US grad needing to do any bridging, which is directed primarily toward technology and health care systems. No, prior work experience is not required to apply for registration, but it will be very important when applying for employment.

Jan, I would be interested in hearing more about your experience in MB. I am a Canadian who graduated from an accredited University in the US in 2003, and am now trying to move home to MB.

CRNM is making me do a CCA! I am surprised that my 8 years of nursing, and ASN2003/BSN2010 do not qualify me to even take the CRNE.

I'm surprised to hear that. They were one of the last provinces to close down the diploma program in favour of the BN degree. Perhaps they've been burnt in the same was that Alberta and BC were in 2007-8 when there was a huge influx of inadequately prepared nurses from outside the country and have decided that ALL IENs will have to do it. It's more likely that the documentation they've received from your schools isn't clear enough for them to know where you fit in comparison to home-grown nurses. Are you doing the whole thing, or just a specific part? I'm sure you'll have no difficulty with it.

I left MB 9 years ago and have only been back to visit. The last time was in 2009. I know there have been LOTS of changes and they're right in the middle of a provincial election that could make things even worse. I wish you all the best.

They are making me complete all four sections!

Hopefully when this is all over it will be worth all the hassle! :)

I will post a response after the CCA and let you know how it went.

Thanks for the response and words of encouragement.
